Publisher's Summary

Miss Emily was old, rich, and afraid - and now, she's dead. Her terrified plea to Hercule Poirot came a little too late. All that's left is a house full of greedy heirs, and a very strange letter that could solve the mystery - or add to it.

Another great one

This is one of Agatha Christie’s books which introduces us to the book-specific main characters, before Hercule Poirot and Captain Hastings come upon the scene. I like both this style, and the style wherein Poirot et al. are in it from the very beginning :-) Utilizing both styles many times in her Poirot book series, Agatha Christie has ensured that the books don’t become monotonous :-) (Poirot-associated continuing characters weaving in and out of the series adds to the novelty :-) )

Hugh Fraser’s narration is excellent, and he voices characters so well, that, once again, I found myself forgetting that I was listening to Fraser, rather than to a particular female character, or a male character very different in character from Captain Hastings. I even kept forgetting at times that Hugh Fraser was voicing Poirot, rather than that David Suchet was performing his signature character!

(And, this particular book contains no American characters, thus, Hugh Fraser’s narration is flawless ;-) )

exceptionally Poirot

one of the most creative Poirot's I have so far read. not as revealing as the orient or the Nile but as complex an ending as either. Enjoy.

Brilliant!

This is indeed one of my AC favourites! Hugh Fraser is superb as the throaty old Victorian pussies and vague younger ones lol! Agatha must have had a grand time writing this one! Next dog will be named Bob in remembrance!
