Grips you from the beginning.

Kept in suspense throughout the book. I looked forward to listening daily. A few plot disappointments in how I wished certain situations ended differently but that is relative. I did figure out 2 twists but that didn't change the positive rating.Enoyed.

Annoyingly Unrelatable Characters

There is definitely a voyeuristic quality to this K.L. Slater Psychological Suspense Thriller: Readers/Listeners are treated to an array of figures with jawdropping dysfunction/psychopathology. We get to peer into a fascinating milieu of WTF motivations & actions from virtually *everyone* involved. The book is an incredibly interesting description of a series of train-wreck relationships.
Unfortunately, the lack of any supportable personality also made it so that I really didn't care what happened to any of these people.. and that paradigm makes it awfully hard for an author to generate tension.
Slater does her level best: delivering capable vocabulary/prose, a twisty-turny plot, and excellent pacing - but I had trouble getting past my dislike for the cast. It was consequently almost impossible to suspend disbelief.

Narrator Lucy Price-Lewis likewise does her best to elevate the book. Her performance in this one is pitch-perfect (pick the audiobook if given a choice between this recording and a text version of 'Safe With Me') - but she can't save the book, either.

Altogether, this "glimpse-at-the-darker-side" audiobook merits 6 stars out of 10. If you can get it as a 'Plus' offering (as I did), it's an enjoyable option for a couple of quiet afternoons, but save your Credit for something else should they ask.

[Incidentally: Slater's writing survivors of trauma as invariably addicted to prescription sedatives - in multiple novels - is striking. It's an odd obsession]

Underwhelming

My second book by this another and again I read it in one sitting.
Good writing and great premises.
Most of the book is written in first person and you are taken inside the head of the main character, which is a place that you won’t want to be, not because she is totally unlikable, but because she does sound creepy and delusional.
Anyways, this was very entertaining, with some very good moments, but with nothing remarkable. The conclusion felt convoluted and I think that the author tried too hard with this debut.
Once again I did not get the thrill that was promised by the blurb, but still not a bad entertainment.
I read the ebook while at the same time listened to the audiobook narrated by Lucy Price-Lewis, who did a great job.

Main character definitely needed help! I mean mental health help

Anna’s story drove me nuts at times… “oh why oh why me ?” “Don’t they understand?” Felt for Liam and Ivy, but it kept me coming back, needed to get to the end. Surprise ending really, and then the idea of the future.
Enjoyed the narration.

The book was pretty good.

The story line was interesting, however, I found it a repeat in terms of motivation and approach to Liar.

Meh

This was not thrilling to me. Seemed to go on forever and ending was just meh, anticlimactic.
