Publisher's Summary

Jane Hawk - fiction's most relentless, resourceful, stunning new heroine - continues her battle against a murderous conspiracy in the riveting sequel to The Silent Corner.

"No time to delay. Do what you were born to do. Fame will be yours when you do this."

These are the words that ring in the mind of mild-mannered, beloved schoolteacher Cora Gundersun - just before she takes her own life, and many others', in a shocking act of carnage. When the disturbing contents of her secret journal are discovered, it seems certain that she must have been insane. But Jane Hawk knows better.

In the wake of her husband's inexplicable suicide - and the equally mysterious deaths of scores of other exemplary individuals - Jane picks up the trail of a secret cabal of powerful players who think themselves above the law and beyond punishment. But the ruthless people bent on hijacking America's future for their own monstrous ends never banked on a highly trained FBI agent willing to go rogue - and become the nation's most wanted fugitive - in order to derail their insidious plans to gain absolute power with a terrifying technological breakthrough.

Driven by love for her lost husband and by fear for the five-year-old son she has sent into hiding, Jane Hawk has become an unstoppable predator. Those she is hunting will have nowhere to run when her shadow falls across them.

Excellent!!

I love this series. The narrator is fantastic. Although the story is fantastical it has a gritty realism that makes it feel as if it could be happening. Listened to the book on a long drive and it made the drive fun and more than bearable!

Awesome follow-up

Jane Hawk can die if only because she was alive first. It’s been a few years since a character has lived with me off the page and in my head. I can’t type anymore because I need to get to the next book in the series. Thank you Dean Koontz. And thank you, Editor and Publisher, and everyone in the process to get her into my heart!

Sometimes verbose

I love Dean Koontz. I have always enjoyed his novels. The Jane Hawk series is no exception. I am truly enjoying it, however I find my mind wandering occasionally because he is sometimes verbose and overly describes a scene. Elisabeth does a great job narrating, though sometimes her cadence also has my mind wandering.

Not for me

Despite being Well written and well executed, I couldn’t be bothered to finish this book.
I guess I was expecting something a little edgier from the author. This one didn’t really do it for me.

A 'Very Good' Koontz Novel

This book is pretty typical of a Dean Koontz story. There are elements of the Fantastical (his hypothetical "mind-control" self-assembling nanotechnology is far beyond anything possible with the physics of our universe); gritty realism (unmatched - sometimes unsettling -  description); a relentless fast-paced plot (gripping from Page One); guy-at-the-end-of-the-bar dialogue (we could be eavesdropping); and Dogs worked in somehow (the man loves canines).
Koontz's FBI Agent On-The-Run Jane Hawk continues her mission to eliminate the mysterious forces who killed her husband.  Gun battles, car chases, and near-miss capture attempts abound in this pulse-pounding book. The plot is a little cartoonish (the bad guys are stereotypical heartless über-rich "We-Know-Better-Than-The-Unwashed-Masses" elites), but it's clever and believable - despite lagging at points and lacking flow (it's strikingly episodic). This book certainly isn't the best in Koontz's catalogue, but it's a more than passable Action-Thriller.

Elisabeth Rodgers is likewise above-average in the performance of 'The Listening Room'. Once again, her voice-acting is a little subpar (male characters aren't great) and her reading is best consumed at 1.15X.. but generally I applaud the narration. Rodgers is a true professional and really has assumed the voice of Jane Hawk.

Fans of Dean Koontz will definitely enjoy this 8/10 star audiobook.. but readers new to him should also like it (it's a fairly typical example of what the author has to offer). In addition, reading 'The Silent Corner' (Book One) first is recommended - but simply sitting back and enjoying this action-packed second story as it stands is reasonable, too (Koontz deftly summarizes the overall story arc, ensuring the book has some standalone merit). Whatever led you to consider this book.. your Credit would be well-spent.

[The Jane Hawk series is a creditable set of fun 'Man-On-The-Run' Thrillers - but I will be stopping after Book Two (Koontz's infallible, supremely confident heroine irks me somehow). You really should give it a try to see if it's right for you, however. These are well-crafted books.]
