Publisher's Summary

She was close enough to see that the girl had written a word on the wall in bright, warm red blood. Not a word, actually. A name...

Everyone in the small town of Denton is searching for Isabelle Coleman, a missing 17-year-old girl. All they've found so far is her phone and another girl they didn't even know was missing.

Mute and completely unresponsive to the world around her, it's clear this mysterious girl has been damaged beyond repair. All Detective Josie Quinn can get from her is a name: Ramona.

Currently suspended from the force for misconduct, Josie takes matters into her own hands as the name leads her to evidence linking the two girls. She knows the race is on to find Isabelle alive, and she fears there may be others....

The trail leads Josie to another victim, a girl who escaped but whose case was labelled a hoax by authorities. To catch this monster, Josie must confront her own nightmares and follow her instinct to the darkest of places. But can she make it out alive?

Fans of Angela Marsons, Helen Fields, and Robert Dugoni will be utterly gripped and listening long into the night once they discover the first in this unputdownable new crime thriller series.

Book would be better if the narrator didn’t suck.

Narrator is terrible. Pronounced words very strangely and it gets really annoying after a while. “Ate” sounds like “et” and she pronounced “Estrogen” like “Eee-strogen” very off putting trying to figure out normal words every two minutes.

I enjoyed the story

I thought the story was well written after a slow start but I agree with all the people who disliked the narrator and her pronunciation. One reviewer said she sounded Canadian, no way, don't blame any Canadian for those pronunciation issues, in fact the director of the audio performance should have caught the problems, the most glaring is the word ate, pronounced et. Anyway, I was able to get into the story and book once I tried not to be annoyed at the narration. I am going to continue with the series and I noticed that the narrator changes after the third (?) book which will, hopefully, be an improvement.

Great Story,

Loved the story, a couple good twists and turns. I do agree with some of the other reviews, the narrators accent drove me a little crazy. The way she pronounced “taco” and “ate”....and no this is definitely NOT a Canadian accent. I am Canadian and I do not pronounce words this way, nor does anyone else I know.

Poor performance

Weird pronunciation and character voices.
Good story line. Would try other books with different narrator.

I couldn’t even finish it.

The book is poorly written and the narrator is awful. … I couldn’t find it in me to finish the book.

book good narrator awful

I had to stop listening and borrow the book from the library. I liked the book and intend on reading the rest of the series but the narrator's voice and inflection and enunciation was so bad I stopped after chapter 3.

A fast paced, gripping read

I was so worried that this would be "just another detective fiction" but my goodness, this book was so good I couldn't put it down! Even with a few plot points seeming obvious at first, I was shocked so many times. This book is worth the read, you know it the moment all the pieces start coming together.

Narrator

The narrator ruins this for me. I find it unusual to hire a narrator that cannot properly pronounce words.

Story OK, didn't like the reader

The story took a long time to really get me interested, in the end it was okay. I did not like the reader. She often made the police detective and a TV reporter sound like 16 year olds, and in general, an adolescent tone was used.
