Amazing

After seeing his performance of mythos live at Niagra on the lake last summer, I was determined to wait for the audiobook because I know his performance to be amazing. This audiobook did not disappoint.

Fry does a fantastic job of bringing the myths of Ancient Greece to life. The characters sound real, and Fry’s turns of phrase are always a delicious treat.

Stephen Fry is a master storyteller.

I have always loved Greek myth, much like Fry himself. As a young boy I remember being enchanted by stories of Herakles and Perseus. Fry does an absolutely incredible job of capturing the humour, warmth, tragedy and humanity of these ancient stories. I'm very excited that there is another book in this series!

Best of the Best

The highest quality audio crisp and clear combined with unsurpassed vocal talent that is Stephen Fry. Modern interpretation with his witty humour make almost every second nothing but pure entertainment. I am constantly taken off guard with humorous observations, metaphors, and character descriptions. I'm not sure I will remember Greek mythology any more than I learned from school but for certain without this reading I wouldn't have been able to entertain a complete beginning to end performance as I have here.

Great everything

Stephen Fry bring these stories to life, both in narration and in writing. I wasn't at all familiar with Greek mythology, and this was an amazing introduction. It may be the first audible book that I listen to twice

A Masterful Read of Greek Mythology

Stephen Fry does an amazing job in both writing and narrating this book. His ability to provide an entertaining overview of Greek mythology and informative context without dropping the narrative ball is a testament to his proclivity for profound prose. (There's also an abundance of allegorical alliteration.) Definitely recommended for anyone interested in Greek Mythology or just looking for a good yarn.

Please, will you tell me a story?

How does Stephen Fry do it? The pantheon of Greek Gods was never boring to me, but could be confusing and WAS bizarre and alien. Fry has made it so...Human.

This is a man who knows his subject so well that he can play with it, adding bits of cosmological physics and a Monty Python reference about cheese, yet still teach us about pounds, shillings and pence as well as the labyrinthine origins of these mythic beings.

The enchantment began immediately for me because I forgot to consider who was doing the reading. After only a few minutes of listening to his voice my parasympathetic nervous system to kicked in, slipping me gently into dreams.

For anyone who is interested in comparative religion or ancient civilizations; for anyone who ever was soothed to sleep by hearing a bedtime story, to anyone who has appreciated Fry's previous works... I truly believe that you'll enjoy hearing the early Greek stories of how it all began.

neither short stories or a novel

Stephen fry is a masterful narrator... but even he could not salvage this book. I was expecting to be drawn in to a spectacular storyline and a sense of adventure. Instead it felt like a combination of an Ancestry.com summary of who is related to who ( lots of names and relationships) and a Wikipedia article with lots of backlinks to other characters. I truly wish I could have enjoyed it more.

Mythology for the kitchen table

The book takes these very old stories and makes them absolutely relatable and engaging to a kitchen table audience.

Stephen Fry is the best narrator on Audible.
