Story
Narcissistic and toxic mothers are often injured in their childhoods by their own stunted emotional development. In order to fully develop into a healthy adult, we need a very nurturing and emotionally validating environment. Toxic and narcissistic mothers often grow up without that nurturing. They have jumped through hoops and tailored themselves to others around them. They have been invited to be a part of mind games, lies, and manipulation. They may have been told repeatedly that they weren't wanted.

Individuals with this disorder engage in chronic devaluation and manipulation of their partners, a psychological and emotional phenomenon known as "narcissistic abuse". Unfortunately, the full extent of what narcissistic abuse entails is not taught in any psychology class or diagnostic manual.

Story
The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering.

Publisher's Summary
If you are an adult child of a narcissistic mother, this audiobook is for you, and if you are not sure whether your abusive mother is a pathological narcissist, you will find out.
If you listen to this audiobook:
- You will become aware of all the reasons why your childhood was so traumatic.
- You will learn how to deal with your narcissistic mother without being her victim any longer.
- You will find out all dysfunctional beliefs and habits that you developed during your childhood.
- You will learn how to contrast Complex Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms.
The issue of toxic mothers challenges the status quo in so many ways but does need to be addressed. Adult children of narcissistic parents are often plagued with so much guilt and sense of deep obligation and shame that they feel duty-bound to keep whatever happened in the family secret, even when it is shredding their lives. It’s really difficult to share your experience because narcissists, and especially a narcissistic mother, can be very good at creating the perfect image of the family for outsiders.
The solution is not forgiving or forgetting, but understanding and working on your self-development, and finally taking back control of your life.
Even if you were born in the wrong place, growing up dealing with an abusive mother, you can leave the past behind and build a better future by taking control of your life. This audiobook is a painful path of awareness, but it is also the first step of a journey toward a better life.

Great read and very eye-opening!
I enjoyed this read. It was very relevant and useful information. The only thing I would alter is that it felt like there 100 different types of narcissists and kept giving examples without fully explaining each kind. There was a lot of info to keep track of. However the examples and format it was written and read with made it easy to understand and define.

Set your audio to 1.5x and it’s normal speech
I automatically have my audios faster cuz I note there are a LOT of slow talkers out there and it’s mildly necessary if you want a smoother sped up sound. Ppl who talk fast have a weird cadence when sped up. She doesn’t sound robotic at all with the audio at 1.5x. That being said and a solution given to most readers or past readers who want to give it another go - this was a great book. It’s given me a lot to think about in regards to moving on or validating myself.
