Publisher's Summary

Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's Navigators of Dune is the climactic finale of the Great Schools of Dune trilogy, set 10,000 years before Frank Herbert's classic Dune.

The story line tells the origins of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood and its breeding program, the human-computer Mentats, and the Navigators (the Spacing Guild), as well as a crucial battle for the future of the human race, in which reason faces off against fanaticism. These events have far-reaching consequences that will set the stage for Dune, millennia later.

Great story, frustrating characters

Does a good job wrapping up this branch of the series while presenting a few surprises as well. Would be 5 stars if it were not for the feeling that some of the characters are forced to act out of character in order to fulfill plot points. Still a good sci-fi read and an excellent narrator too.

Very Good

Ive listened to 8 Brian Herbert/KJA books now and can say that I actually enjoyed this one. I found the previous novel incredibly boring and slow paced. (and the ones before that not overly exciting either) It seems like the actual "meat and potatoes" of the story that they're telling could be summed up in one or two books each rather than 2 series of 3 books each.

That being said I'm actually looking forward to starting the Great Houses series (maybe because I'm one book closer to rereading Frank's series) and as usual Scott Brick does a fantastic job narrating this book.

Great characters

I found myself quickly immersed in all the various characters and their struggles, often "taking sides" with those I felt akin to as fleshed out in the story.
