Publisher's Summary

They say family always sticks together, but when you're your dad's only lifeline and the whole world - humans, dragons, and gods - wants you dead, "family bonding" takes on a whole new meaning.

My name is Opal Yong-ae, and I'm in way over my head. I thought getting rid of my dad's bad luck curse would put things back to normal. Instead, I'm stuck playing caretaker to the Great Dragon of Korea. That wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn't such a jerk, or if every dragon on the planet wasn't out to kill him, or if he was my only problem.

Turns out, things can always get worse in the DFZ. When a rival spirit attacks my god/boss with the aim of turning the famously safety-optional city into a literal death arena with Nik as his bloody champion, I'm thrust onto the front lines and way out of my comfort zone. When gods fight, mortals don't usually survive, but I'm not alone this time. Even proud old dragons can learn new tricks, and with everything I love falling to pieces, the father I've always run from might just be the only force in the universe stubborn enough to pull us back together

Featured Article: The Best Female Narrators You Can Listen To All Day

When considering a new audiobook, one of the biggest questions listeners have is whether they’ll enjoy the narration style. This is understandable as audiobooks span at least a few hours, and sticking with one person’s voice for that period can feel like a big commitment. Luckily, there are so many excellent voice actors performing audiobooks that you might just find yourself gravitating to certain audiobooks based solely on the narrator’s strength.

Great ending to the trilogy!

*some vague spoilers included*
I loved the story and listened to the last 6 hours over single day while I reorganized my personal library. I love the relationship between Opal and her father, and that the conflict with Nick wasn't over inflated. It was very emotionally satisfying listening to Opal gain her independance while also realizing her own areas of fault. Grumpy Julian was fun too, haha (although odd to hear him voiced by someone other than Vikas Adam)!

Complete Satisfaction

Despite wanting more, I can happily say I’m pleased with this conclusion. I was cackling, tensing, and worrying throughout this whole story. I love the characters, their growth and the end that just made me positively giddy.

phenomenal

just as all the other books I've enjoyed from this author the world sucks you in the characters grab your heart and the overarching story captivates your mind the narration was enjoyable and there were no character voices that we're grading to hear as so many audiobooks have

DFZ I want more

this is the last book of two series written in the Detroit Free Zone. I found it a beautiful look at relationships mixed with the awe of dragons.

Great series

Really enjoyed the trilogy. Good description and visuals through the story and books flowed well together. Narrator did a good job too.

A fantastic series

This entire series keeps you glued to your headphones. This author does a masterful job at storytelling from the first person perspective. If you enjoyed the first two books, this one will absolutely spellbind you. It would be a fitting end to this trilogy, yet selfishly, I hope that this isn't the last time I visit Opal, Nick, Great Yung of Korea, and the DFZ. I will hope for another addition to the series, but even if none comes to be, this ending has created a great sense of satisfaction. Bravo.

Great Finish

If you made it this far, there is good pay-off in this book.

Opal has the most growth in this installment. Performance makes the book (as always).

The author treats Opal and Nic as a sure thing so there is only a small portion of the book dedicated to their relationship.

Loved It!

This is the third and last book to the DFZ series, and it does not disappoint. The story is beautifully wrapped up and totally satisfying to listen to. The tone is similar to the last two books, so if you enjoyed those then this should follow suit. Emily Woo Zeller does an amazing job yet again and I loved her narration of Opal. Highly recommended series for those who want some light hearted, cheeky fun with a well imagined world and great action.
