Publisher's Summary

Let #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts fly you into Lunacy, Alaska, and into a colorful, compelling novel about two lonely souls who are searching for love and redemption...

As a Baltimore cop, Nate Burke watched his partner die on the street - and the guilt still haunts him. With nowhere else to go, he accepted the job as Chief of Police in a tiny, remote Alaskan town with the hopes of starting over. Despite the name, Lunacy provides a balm for Nate’s shattered soul - and an unexpected affair with pilot Meg Galloway warms his nights....

But other things in Lunacy are heating up. Nate suspects the killer in an unsolved murder still walks the snowy streets. His investigation will unearth the secrets and suspicions that lurk beneath the placid surface, as well as bring out the big-city survival instincts that made him a cop in the first place. And his discovery will threaten the new life - and the new love - that he has finally found for himself.

What the critics say

"[A] richly textured novel that captures the intimacy of smalltown police work, the prickliness of the pioneer spirit and the paradox of a setting at once intimate and expansive." (Publishers Weekly)

"Roberts's latest hit novel could not be performed better." (AudioFile)

Whodunnit?

#Audible1 This is a good murder mystery as it keeps you guessing right to the end. The story is set in a remote town called "Lunacy" in Alaska. The main character is "Nate" a cop from Baltimore that's depressed because his partner was killed on the job. Nate feels responsible for what happened to his partner and hoping the relocation to Lunacy as police chief will help heal his state of mind. I enjoyed the descriptions of Alaska and the lifestyle of living in such an isolated location. Nate meets Meg a local bush pilot who transports people and supplies around parts of Alaska. Meg is not bashful when it comes to sex and basically asks Nate if he's interested in having it with her. Perhaps I'm old fashioned but I found her to be forward and wondered how many men she has slept with her considering her blasé attitude. Naturally Nate and Meg have a tumble in bed and before we know it he falls madly in love with her.
Meanwhile during a wicked snowstorm climbers seeking shelter from the elements find a cave to stay in until the weather settles down. There the climbers discover a body with an axe embedded in it's chest that's been there inside the mountain for 16 years. Hence the mystery begins with who this person is and who killed this man? More murders occur without clues keeping the towns people on edge wondering who might be next. The story has a slow start but does pick up and has good surprises. It's a good listen and I enjoyed the narration by Gary Littman.

not bad

It was definitely not my best book from Nora Roberts. The psychology of female lead was not clear, the plot too long and then over. in French, we say: bof.

Nice scenery surrounds this narrative . fast paced and entertaining love story thriller. Not sure about the believability of some of the characters.

great story!

I wasn't expecting much from this book but I'm very glad that I purchased it. It was a very well told story with excellent narration. The only issue was the weird echoey phone calls in the book. Still a five out of five, Great Book.

Roberts delivers yet again!

A fabulous tale woven in Alaskan beauty. This was my 1st purchase of an audio book and I really enjoyed it. The inflection in the voice of the narrator made listening a pleasure.

Captivating and very well read

Love this story. Great characters, keeps you guessing. The tale invests you in the people and the humour, quick and often. Nora Roberts never fails to entertain.
The narrative is excellent and fabulous variety in character voice and timing. One of the best I’ve heard. Well Done!

Gary did a fantastic job narrating.

love this narrartor, sometimes there were some audio issues like crackling but not for very long. story line was easy to follow and had lots of suspense and it was just sexy enough, nothing too raunchy. looking forward to another book by Nora Roberts!
