Story
The result of this Roger Daltrey's introspection is a remarkable memoir, instantly captivating, funny and frank, chock-full of well-earned wisdom and one-of-kind anecdotes from a raucous life that spans a tumultuous time of change in Britain and America. Born during the air bombing of London in 1944, Daltrey fought his way (literally) through school and poverty and began to assemble the band that would become The Who while working at a sheet metal factory in 1961.

If it can happen in show business, it’s happened to Jon Cryer. Now he’s opening up for the first time and sharing his behind-the-scenes stories in a warmly endearing, sharply observed, and frankly funny look at life in Hollywood. In 1986, Jon Cryer won over America as Molly Ringwald’s loyal and lovable best friend, Duckie, in the cult classic Pretty in Pink in a role that set the tone for his three-decade-long career in Hollywood. He went on to establish himself as one of the most talented comedic actors in the business.

Mike Myers is a world-renowned actor, director and writer and the man behind some of the most memorable comic characters of our time. Most people know Andrew McCarthy from his movie roles in Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo's Fire, Weekend at Bernie's, and Less Than Zero, and as a charter member of Hollywood's Brat Pack. That iconic group of ingenues and heartthrobs has come to represent both a genre of film and an era of pop culture. In his memoir, McCarthy focuses his gaze on that singular moment in time. The result is a revealing look at coming of age in a maelstrom, reckoning with conflicted ambition, innocence, addiction, and masculinity.

The New York Times best-selling biography of an American comedy legend. After three years of sobriety, Chris Farley's life was at its creative peak until a string of professional disappointments chased him back to drugs and alcohol. He fought hard against them, but it was a fight he would lose in December 1997. Farley's fans immediately drew parallels between his death and that of his idol, John Belushi. Without looking deeper, however, many failed to see that Farley was much more than just another Hollywood drug overdose. In this officially authorized oral history, Farley's friends and family remember his work and life.

Henry Winkler, launched into prominence as “The Fonz” in the beloved Happy Days, has transcended the role that made him who he is. Brilliant, funny, and widely regarded as the nicest man in Hollywood (though he would be the first to tell you that it’s simply not the case, he’s really just grateful to be here), Henry shares in this achingly vulnerable memoir the disheartening truth of his childhood, the difficulties of a life with severe dyslexia, the pressures of a role that takes on a life of its own, and the path forward once your wildest dream seems behind you.

I grew up with Genesis playing in the background as my dad was a big fan. The Phil Collins of the 80’s and 90’s was the backdrop of my teenage years. To hear the story behind the music told so truthfully by the man himself is amazing. Thanks Phil!!!

Honest and powerful.
Enjoyed learning the backstory about Genesis and Collins solo career as well as tidbits of his encounter with musics legends. Phil Collins offers a profoundly honest portrait of his life an loves. Was particularly relevant having just recently seen his wonderful performance with Nick his young son on drums in Toronto. Collins is a fighter and is a gifted artist. Thank you for this Phil.

Fantastic memoir of one of the best musician, composer, entertainer of the last 50 years. Narrated in a simple yet extremely interesting way. Not Dead Yet is by far the very best biography I have ever read or heard. After having delighted so many with his musical talents, Phil Collins now does the same with his writing skills and the story of his life! Any small or big fan of him or Genesis : this is a must.

Interesting, entertaining, humble and soulful book
I really found that with Phil Collins narrative, it was full of facts that were interesting, but also showed his vulnerability of being human. It was a good read. The 4 star ratings on some were due to me not knowing a lot of the people whom he worked with so it was hard to keep up. He relationships and his family life was written and narrated soulfully. I did appreciate when Phil collins took responsibility for a lot of his actions and the repercussions it had to his family, that shows personal internal growth for his soul. Well done!

Honest portrayal of a legend's career
I've been on a bit of a musician biography kick lately. I didn't even know Phil Collins has written a book until it came up in my recommendations and as a fan of his work on his own and with Genesis, I gave it a go. I finished it in less than 5 days, it's that much of an "auditory page turner" if you will.
This isn't your typical "sex, drugs and rock and roll" story, though certainly not without a lot of its own tragedy. This is a story of someone incredibly dedicated to his craft, so much so that it leads to massive workaholism, that leads to the failure of 3 marriages and 5 kids scattered across the world, even as Mr. Collins tries his best to be a good and genuine Dad. Interestingly, his problems with substance abuse actually come much later in his life, when he's largely retired from music, in fact, only a few years before the book was written. Not just the failure of his third marriage but indeed, breaking from the endless cycle of recording and touring (largely due to health issues caused by that) is what seems to have sent him down the dark path. Thankfully, he's largely recovered from that.
Like many rock star stories, you'll hear tales of terrible, often stupid choices Mr. Collins made that led to some of his downfalls. He's very candid about them and takes accountability for his parts, something many celebrities don't do in their autobiographies. It's also clear that a lot of the smears the British tabloids loved to lob at him were untrue or at best, heavily distorted versions of the truth.
I found this book very entertaining and both inspiring and in parts, tragic at the same time. Love Phil Collins' music or hate it (personally, I really like most of it), you can't deny he had an incredible work ethic and contributed an incredible amount to the musical trends of the 80s and 90s.
I highly recommend this one.

Funny, moving and honest
I was a Genesis fan back in the early days and followed all the members as they did their own things. Phil was always a favourite and this auto-biography tells his whole story. Being read by Phil himself makes it so much more enjoyable. It's an easy listen. It's captivating. It's fun and it's informative, both in terms of Phil's life and astonishing career and his struggles as an ordinary, workaholic bloke who can't say no despite the effects this has on the families he's created and so obviously adores. I've always admired him and his candor, self depreciation and humour in this memoir make me like the old chap even more.
If this was the book I wouldn't have put it down. As the Audible I played it in the car, at work and at home over a two day period. A record for me. It's a "right riveting" listen!

Outstanding~ personal ~ at times tragic and funny~
PLOT:a personal look at the life of the "intense" and talented Phil Collins.
Phil Collins narrates this bio. He starts with is home life including stormy relationship with his Dad. He is talented in music and is keen on drums. He earns the part of the "artful dodger" in a musical version of Oliver until his voice breaks due to on coming manhood. He takes piano lessons from his aunt who even leaves him her cherished piano. Around age 20 Phil works to pay for his cherished Record Collection. He tells of a funny story of being in the movie "A Hard Days Night" with the Beatles which ends up on the cutting room floor. So many near misses on the climb to fame. He is in several bands but ends up with Genesis. Timid and a bit shy he expresses himself through his music. A youthful first marriage ends in a devastating divorce and two children. a second marriage which ends up his admitting an affair and also dumping Jill wife #2 by Fax......He admits it all and holds nothing back including self loathing. As his fame increases and his song writing and solo career and Genesis explodes he is one of the top singers, song writers and drum players in the 1980s and 1990s earning many Grammy and music awards including an Oscar. As marriage #3 fails ....he retires and becomes an alcoholic. He has several near fatal hospital stays with pancreatic failure. His near brushes with death only destroyed his health and his relationships. He is very candid and even humorous as he clearly says...I had "alcohol in my blood or should I say ....blood in my alcohol." ....As he recovers his health AND finally his addictions.....he makes a successful relationship with ex wife #3 with who he still resides. He also is candid about the use of steroids to help his singing voice which also deteriorates his bones and back. He admits to now walking with a cane and blames no one but himself for all his problems. His look inside the world of world of bands and music is both fascinating and revealing. At times funny like his meeting Cher on a plane. This book is excellent. His reading his own bio keeps you focused on how brilliant this man really is. The highs and lows of very talented Phil Collins ~ Best Bio I have heard. 5 STARS all the way.

That Phil read it. No way it could have been any other way!
What does Phil Collins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
What doesn't he bring? It's read by the man who lived it. How could it be any better?
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES
Any additional comments?
I have been a Phil Collins and Genesis fan since I was a teenager and I think this book could quite possibly make me appreciate the music and respect Phil even more. What a huge musical legacy. What a personal life.
I'm glad he talked about his drinking. Anyone at age 50 needs to find a way to stop. not talked about enough. Overall great book.

Honest
Phil doesn't hold back and is willing to admit to his shortcomings. His performance is easy to listen to and I was interested every step of the way.

An honest candid look at Phil Collins
I found this book to be entertaining and interesting. I also appreciate that Phil doesn't portray himself in a perfect light. He admits his faults and regrets. He also proves that he's a hard working musician, songwriter, and a very intelligent and creative man.
I like him. This is a book I will recommend to musicians I know and to anyone who wants to know what fame and fortune can do to people.

Amazing career, amazing autobiography.
As a lifelong fan of Phil Collins and Genesis, this long overdue memoir provided great insight into the man behind the legend and the drum kit. Pulling no punches, Collins readily admits to his failures but also takes great pride in his accomplishments. His music has provided me with great comfort over the years and it's good to know he's now content with what he's done.

Quite a Life -
Not as familiar with Genius catalog of music & hits as some other bands of the era - but always interesting to read/hear the back story of a big time rocker growing up & paying their dues. Phil has had quite a life - an interesting story - not sure if he ever shows a tremendous amount of insight into his life - as he continues to fall in love with the next pretty thing & blow up his current marriage - but what the heck - he's a Rock Star
