Publisher's Summary

How long should I wait to respond to his text message? Can I friend him on Facebook? Why did he ask for my number but never call me? /p>

When The Rules was published in 1995, its message was straightforward: be mysterious. But for women looking for love today, it's not quite so simple. In a world of instant messaging, location check-ins, and status updates, where hook-ups have become the norm and formal one-on-one dates seem a thing of the past, it's difficult to retain the air of mystery that keeps men interested.

Now, with help from their daughters, the original Rules Girls, Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider, share their thoroughly modern, fresh take on dating that will help women in today's information age create the happy love lives they want and deserve. Whether you're a 20-something dating for the first time, a 30-something tired of being single, a 40-something giving advice to your daughter, or a 50-something getting back in the dating game, this book has the answers you've been waiting for.

The new Rules include:

  • Stay away from his Facebook profile
  • Make yourself invisible and other ways to get out of instant messaging
  • Stop dating a guy who cancels more than once
  • Text-back times chart
  • Don't just hang out or see him 24/7
  • TTYL: Always end everything first - get out of there!
  • And much, much more!

Providing the dos and don'ts you need to stop making mistakes and start finding romance, Not Your Mother's Rules will revolutionize dating today just as The Rules did nearly 20 years ago!

gross

this was gross to listen to, infact I couldn't even be bothered to finish listening. the approach on women's appearance and is disgusting. the author literally says curly hair is messy so blow it out or straighten it, highlight hair if it's dark, get extensions of you have short hair. shame on the authors for this disgusting info.

Needs updating for 2021.

I believe in a lot of what is said in this book, and I can attest to the fact that the basic principles do work, however I think it needs to be written with the ideas that not all of us are skinny blondes nor do we want to be and above all of that not all men want a skinny blonde.
I believe women need to go back to a simpler time when we we’re actually courted and respected and treated the way we were intended to be treated on dates and while dating and even married.
I think this book is on the right track to expressing that, so read it but make sure you understand that it’s a guideline not a strict interpretation of what should be done while dating or in a relationship.

Okay

While there is lots of great points about being pursued and some dating advice to help young women avoid the hook up culture when they are looking for something serious, I did not love this book.

The author's focus on physical appearance is gross. Citing ideas such as foods will not taste as good as it will feel to wear that two piece bathing suit - really? Would not recommend, or at least skip that chapter, if you are someone who has ever struggled with disorder eating or body dysmorphia.

Basically, the shamey idea that someone will not love you if you partake in certain activities and do not keep up to certain ideals is an overarching feel the book gave me. Take the whole thing with a grain of salt in my opinion. Apply the rules however you see fit to your dating life, but I certainly will not be treating this as a dating bible.

Cringeworthy

I’m not normally so critical but some parts of this book made be cringe. There are certain valid points but personally I don’t agree with a lot of it
