Publisher's Summary

Narrated by Brianna Madia

In this beautifully written, vividly detailed memoir, a young woman chronicles her adventures traveling across the deserts of the American West in an orange van named Bertha and reflects on an unconventional approach to life

A woman defined by motion, Brianna Madia bought a beat-up bright orange van, filled it with her two dogs Bucket and Dagwood, and headed into the canyons of Utah with her husband. Nowhere for Very Long is her deeply felt, immaculately told story of exploration—of the world outside and the spirit within.

However, pursuing a life of intention isn’t always what it seems. In fact, at times it was downright boring, exhausting, and even desperate—when Bertha overheated and she was forced to pull over on a lonely stretch of South Dakota highway; when the weather was bitterly cold and her water jugs froze beneath her as she slept in the parking lot of her office; when she worried about money, her marriage, and the looming question mark of her future. But Brianna was committed to living a life true to herself, come what may, and that made all the difference.

Nowhere for Very Long is the true story of a woman learning and unlearning, from backroads to breakdowns, from married to solo, and finally, from lost to found to lost again . . . this time, on purpose.

I wish I had purchased the physical book

I follow Brianna on Instagram and I’m a huge fan and supporter. I like the book but I feel that she took advantage of too many technology tools to “read” this book. It’s single toned all along, except for the bit talking about Dagwood’s accident. Since I “know” her well from Instagram, I know she’s not single toned like this. It’s possible to notice the AI skipping some letters sounds while reading it. I love technology but after having heard Glennon Doyle, Viola Davis and Will Smith reading their books on Audible, I accept nothing less than the same full commitment to one’s own work. Sorry!

Heart explosion of the very best kind

This is the first time I’ve ever cried real tears and laughed out loud to the yelling of a story. It felt like I was having a glass of wine with Bri whilst watching the dogs run on a dried up lake bed in the middle of nowhere talking about everything and talking about nothing all the same. What an experience!

Page turner

Brianna’s words are so descriptive you can envision every single second of her story as if you are watching it happen. Her story is refreshing, heartbreaking and thrilling, you won’t want to stop listening. I cannot say enough positive things about this book or about it’s author. I cannot wait for her next book!

Nothing there

Just quilt over running over you dog and having others to pay the go fund me for fixing their mistake through a lie costing a human relationship in the end. She should have had more respect for her husband’s need to heal than to let him crash.

A beautiful memoir

Brianna is not only a fascinating human but a talented writer and storyteller. She painted a beautiful series of stories that felt like they took me on the adventure with them. I didn’t expect to get so emotional in this book. I applaud her unconventional lifestyle and ability to remain authentic in the face of adversity!

Intensely interesting and realistic

I look forward to reading Ms. Madia's next book, telling about how she wrangled a chainsaw into submission, and was rendered helpless by a smol freckled pupper.

Yes!!

I love the freedom of choice and the story of how a strong woman chooses her own path and keeps going in the face of adversity. I love the inspiration and knowing and the stories and subtle guidance.

Makes me want to get a van…

Call it midlife crisis or what but I’ve been enjoying books about selling it all and travelling in a van with my dogs.
Will it ever happen? No, probably not.
I didn’t know the author was a social media person so her story is new to me and spoiler…the part about her dog actually had me sobbing while walking my dogs!
Great listen and helps to quell my desire to “live in a van, down by the river”

I loved the book

I didn’t know anything about the author when I chose this book. I really enjoyed the story and thought it was interesting and well written. I worried about her and I was deeply sad for her losses. It’s not just about a dog. It’s about the life of an adventurous couple. She deeply loved dogs and life. Sounds like a life well lived to me.
