Publisher's Summary

Shy and gawky, Ana has always daydreamed about living the life of her exotic half-sister Bee, a pop singer who had a number one hit single before she inexplicably vanished from the celebrity scene.

When Bee turns up dead, Ana is dispatched to the big city to clear out her apartment. Instantly seduced by the second-hand glamour of Bee's baubles, bangles, and bottles of Pierre-Jouet, Ana takes up with Bee's wild club-hopping cronies.

News of a missing cat and a remote country cottage soon convince Ana that her sister was leading a secret life. Now, she's is on a mission to discover what really happened to Bee Bearhorn, the one-hit wonder - and what is about to happen to the unremarkable Ana Wills.

The most amazing voice performance!

Compelling story and I couldn’t stop listening. The performance, however, was fabulous! All the accents were just amazing. The tone and phrasing sounded like I was listening to great actors. Highly recommend this recording!

Not as gripping as Lisa’s other books

Lisa has written some pretty incredible books, a favourite of mine being Then She Was Gone. The suspense and plot twists just weren’t there for me with this one. Just my personal opinion, others might be really into the story. It wasn’t a bad story in any way, just not the usual level of page-turning thriller that I’m used to from Lisa. I also want to mention that I really didn’t appreciate the use of the R word in the book. I know the book was published in 2001, but I think the narration should have been edited to be more sensitive towards people with cognitive differences.
Imo, if you have one credit to spend, get Lisa’s Then She Was Gone or The Night she Disappeared

So good

Atmosphere: 👌
Felt like I was there! Descriptive without being overly detailed.

Main POVs: 👍
-a sheltered but accepting wallflower of a young adult. Prone to codependency but also learning the difference between that and loyalty/love
-a sheltered, rebellious young adult who peaked early. We see them develop into their mid-30s suddenly realizing their life seems to be turning into everything they worked so hard to avoid

Reading journey: 👍
Like a multi-day train trip through different neighbourhoods and the countryside with your found family…sometimes you are looking forward to the end but overall a wonderful time.

Show’n’tell: 👌 perfectly balanced

Great match if you like:
-found family and quirky, loving characters
-seeing characters develop and experience life over a long period
-cozy mystery but realistic and dark (like
Spoiler

-family dysfunction due to
Spoiler

-opposites attract romance

Vibes: 🥹😔😯

Best Lisa Jewell BY FAR

I’ve read so many of Lisa Jewell’s books that I’ve lost track of the number. One Hit Wonder is DEFINITELY the BEST of all of them!!! Great plot and characterization, and great, realistic characters :-) :-) :-) (Yup; they ARE realistic!!!)

Great story,

It was a good story. Heart breaking but also happy, the narrator was good but I could have done without the Uh Huhs and the Yeps, but otherwise I really enjoyed it.

It is okay

The narrator was great but the story is depressing and not a mystery or thriller in the way most are, I kept expecting something to happen. Okay book, not my favourite by her.

A great audio book

Interesting story & characters and very well narrated. I have been listening to more audio books and the narration is critical for listening enjoyment.
