Desi’s always done the right thing, including marrying the man her father insisted was a better match than Harry. But when she ends up in the ER after an argument gone wrong, she can’t help wondering if the right thing is worth the cost.
Harry refuses to let Desi return to an unsafe home, even if that means putting aside her own broken heart. With love on the line, can they give each other one more chance?

great story
Really great story but MC Harry's voice sounded like a guy to much. I was able to get over it after a couple hours but I wanted to stop listing at first. I only gave it a chance because I spent money. I still ended up enjoying the story, so the plot and character's were good enough to ignore my dislike of a voice.

Beautiful story and amazing narration!!
I first have to say that Lori Prince is now my favorite narrator. She brought all the characters to life! I loved the emotion she puts into the story. I shed tears, laughed out loud and the sex scenes were hot!! I have listened to several books she has narrated recently and have always loved her voice but this story put her at the top of my list! Now on to the book 😀. Ali Vali blew me away with this book! I fell in love with Desi and Harry! Desi went through hell. However, I came to see her as a survivor. Domestic Violence is a hard topic and Ali did a great job with how she handled it. Harry was absolutely adorable! She feels so deeply. She may be sweet and adorable but I pity the person who mess with people she loves! I read a similar version of this story several years in her Fanfic site and was impressed with the changes she made. I loved this book so much ( and just about anything that Ali writes) that I own the paper back, the kindle version and the audiobook!! I plan on re-reading and definitely re-listening to this book many times 😀. I will look forward to the sequel book/audiobook. By the way, if Ali Vali ever puts all the Cain Casey books on audio, my vote is for Lori Prince to narrate them, please, please 😊

I really wanted to rate it higher
It’s difficult for me to give this three stars rather than four since it’s so well written and there are times this story was very, very good. Strong points: effective “bad guy” characters in Desi’s husband’s family; extremely enjoyable secondary cast, especially Rachel and Butch; moments of sweet romance between Desi and Harry; and Lori Prince’s wonderful performance (with the exception of her depiction of the love scenes; I really do love her, but it’s cringey).
Weaker points: the romance between Desi and Harry gets painfully cheesy at times, especially in the latter half of the book. It got to the point where some passages felt like drawn-out drivel. Also, like many of Ali Vali’s books, the HEA is a little too obnoxiously HEA; I don’t need everything to be perfectly idyllic in order to be satisfied with an ending. I prefer a more credible conclusion, especially when the subject matter of the book is something as heavy as domestic violence. When everything pans out perfectly and everyone is blissfully happy after trials like the ones the characters go through here it feels a little...cheap, I guess.
I think the thing that most disappointed me was Desi’s journey. There’s a lot of talk from other characters about how she’s come into her own in the latter half of the story, but I didn’t see it. To me it seemed more like she had swapped dependency on one person (her husband) to another (Harry). There’s not so much a sense that she’s rediscovered herself; it’s more like she rediscovered Harry and their relationship, and glommed onto that. Which, given this is a romance, I probably should have expected rather than going into this hoping for some kind of Coming of Age story. Still, it would have been nice to have seen a little more growth from her.
Overall, a solid 3.5 for the story since it does have it’s good points (!), and a 4 for Lori’s performance.

Not Exactly a Romance
A great story, but the domestic violence aspect made this not feel like a romance. There was love, but so much trauma. If any DV issues are a trigger for you, I’d skip this one.

Ooh Ali Vali
I was already hooked because of Lori Prince. It was hard to listen to all that Desi had to go through, but listening to Harry and Desi reconnect was worth it. It would be wonderful to hear a follow up to their lives and maybe get a book about Rachael and Serena. If not, this would still be a worthy stand alone.

I cried and loved
I can't even tell you how much I loved this book. I was so scared throughout most of it. But glad I didn't put it down. I could use a short story to check in on them. I don't like books on abuse or infidelity. I got this because I needed an audiobook to workout and I genuinely enjoy the Author. I cried and felt love in this book and a lot of other emotions. Loved the ending. All that to say... yes, I recommend.

Flawed yet satisfying listen
Overall a satisfying story though lots to look past such as the character Mona as stereotype of southern black staff who just love to cook and clean for multigenerational white folks' families just with a few modern updates and stereotype of low class stupid wife beating brute. Still a mostly happily ever after lesbian fairytale is still good for an occasional mental vacation.

I'm really satisfied
Usually I absolutely hate second chance romances, a lot of the time, the main characters leave out of selfish reasons and I feel like the relationship shouldn't work, however, believe in Ali Vali. The story was good and even though I didn't care for it, by the end I was rooting for the main couple. I liked the conflict in this story, it was written in a way where every single one of my criticisms was answered and dealt with in a satisfactory manner. The cast of characters brought comedic relief and diversity to the story, it was very refreshing when they were included in scenes. As for the narrator, I love Lori Prince but whenever she does a voice for a butch woman, it feels like they always have a deep manly voice, maybe it's just me. Overall though, she did great. My only qualm about this story is the theme of choice or rather, the lack there of. I feel like everyone has a choice in almost any situation. It's reiterated again and again through out the entire story that Desi had no choice but then the story backtracks and re-examines it again saying that maybe she did have a choice. It was almost like the author had to keep justifying Desi's actions to make the scenario work or maybe I'm just over examining. Overall, the book deals with pretty serious issues but finds a levity with the characters involved making it an incredibly enjoyable read. You should pick this up.

not this a story worth your time
This was insanely hard to listen at time but subject of psychical abuse written with such grace and honesty and rawness that it pulled my heartstrings and took to pieces and left me fully satisfied with excellent writing made more excellent by fantastic narration which elevates story even more definitely a story i won't forget for quite some time.

More unforgettable characters by Ali Vali!
This book is based on Ali Vali's online fan fiction titled How Do You Mend A Broken Heart. It has been reworked but the characters of Desi, Harry, Mona, Rachel, and Albert are truly so well written, I feel as if they are old friends. The subject matter is domestic violence and the aftermath is described in detail but Ali brings us to the Happily Ever After we want. If you are looking for a heartwarming story, give this one a try.
