May 20, 2019: Homicide detective Mallory is in Edinburgh to be with her dying grandmother. While out on a jog one evening, Mallory hears a woman in distress. She’s drawn to an alley, where she is attacked and loses consciousness. May 20, 1869: Housemaid Catriona Thomson had been enjoying a half-day off, only to be discovered that night in a lane, where she’d been strangled and left for dead. I order another bourbon, neat. This is the drink that will flip the switch. I don’t even know how I got here, to this place, to this point. Something is happening to me lately. I’m drinking too much. My sheets are soaking wet when I wake up from nightmares of decaying corpses. I order another drink and swig it, trying to forget about the latest case I can’t shake. Crime solving for me is more complex than the challenge of the hunt, or the process of piecing together a scientific puzzle. The thought of good people suffering drives me to the point of obsession.

With her one-time detective partner, Jack Brennan, back in America, Sarah is at first reluctant to take on the case. But when she does get involved, it soon becomes clear that the tragic accident might really be a case of murder - and even Sarah herself could be in danger.

I am in awe!
This was a gripping, addictive thriller. I was —and still am— on an emotional roller-coaster. In the beginning I tried to work while I listened but by the end of the first hour I was on the couch absolutely spellbound. Oracle is by far one of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to, I can't wait for the rest of the series. Joshua Jackson is a natural storyteller! 10/10 a must listen!

Not bad,
Overall enjoyed the ride - narration, pace, story. Unfortunate that the last set of clues were so easy to decipher but to carry the story forward and not solve everything too easily the team did not follow its own procedure. I also get annoyed with grown adult characters over 30 years of age with hair-trigger tempers and quick fists
