I rarely listen to historical stories, fiction or not. So, this one was a risk but it was free so I took a chance. Glad I did. The story caught me from the beginning and kept me hooked. Not so sure I like the narrator, but he was good with voices and emotion. I felt the introspection and 'will he, won't he?' 'is he like me?' a touch tedious but probably normal for the time when being gay was a death sentence.

Overall, a really good story. Plan on buying it when it is no longer free and eagerly waiting for book two.
