Story
I know you don’t want to talk sometimes. Sometimes because it hurts and sometimes because you’re just not supposed to talk about what you want to talk about. Sometimes it can be hard to say, “this is beautiful”, when no one else can see what you see. Or, “Here, this is where the pain is.” But some part of you knows, the truth about the words you cannot say is that they only hurt until you say them.

Pillow Thoughts....Meh
Pillow Thoughts
I really really enjoyed this! I couldn’t quite relate myself to the poems that were centered on being love sick, but I still read them and found them beautiful. The more relatable ones for me personally just blew me away.I like how each section is labeled on what mood your feeling or what your going through at the time when you read it. I have always wished there were poems books that were like this because it would be so helpful rather than having to read the whole book in order to find a poem that speaks to you. Everyone is going to view poems differently because we have all been through different things in life but I think this book has something for everyone! I look forward to reading more by this author.
Pillow Thoughts II: Healing the Heart
When I started this book I didn’t have sky high expectations but I was at least looking for a new and fresh look on Peppernell’s work. The first two chapters were very repetitive and the poems were a lot like her first book. But after getting through the first two chapters it got better. I think this collection could have benefited from being a bit shorter. I still liked the poems. Some of them I didn't feel anything for, but then others hit really deep and in the end I was left with good, hopeful feelings. Overall, I liked it, but it didn't blow me away
Pillow Thoughts III: Mending the Mind
Meh...After reading Peppernell’s first book “Pillow Thoughts” I found that the rest of her books went down hill. Not to say that this collection wasn’t inspiring or didn’t give any feelings of comfort but I just didn’t get that “Wow” factor. Its definitely not mind blowing or life changing in my opinion but that doesn’t mean that someone else shouldn’t give it a try. I will say overall my favourite poem of the book is:
I keep myself distracted all throughout the day
with coffee and books
and things that make me drift away
But always between every heartbeat
No matter what it is I do
I am constantly thinking of you - Courtney Peppernell

Good poem collection, odd narration pauses.
The content is good and heartfelt. I like the author's voice for the narration, but because of the structure of the poetry I think there could have been a beat or two more between poems to make each one more distinct.

Beautiful, raw, understated
I adore poetry, esp lgbt. I loved this series. It’s made better being read by the author. I loved that it was soft and accessible. Beautifully written and preformed. I think these feelings and concepts are relatable by most anyone. I really dug hearing her thoughts and notes about the poems. I’ve heard amazing things about this series and it did not disappoint. I’m glad I got this set since it includes the author’s notes. The author’s voice and reading style were calming and connective. I would recommend to anyone who loves poetry and wants to relate that to their own human experience. I will def listen to this many times over.
