Publisher's Summary

"None of this matters, and we're all going to die."

With only three days left until the predicted apocalypse, the small town of Franklin Springs, Georgia, has become a wasteland of abandoned cars, abandoned homes, abandoned businesses, and abandoned people. People like Rainbow Williams. Rain isn't afraid of dying. In fact, she's looking forward to it. If she can just outrun her pain until April 23, she'll never have to feel it at all.

"Supplies. Shelter. Self-defense."

Wes Parker has survived every horrible thing this life has thrown at him with nothing more than his resourcefulness and disarming good looks. Why should the end of the world be any different? All he needs are some basic supplies, shelter, and a sucker willing to help him out, which is exactly what he finds when he returns to his hometown of Franklin Springs.

As society crumbles, dangers mount, and secrets refuse to stay buried, two lost souls are thrust together in a twist of fate - one who will do anything to survive and one who can't wait to die. Perhaps, together, they can learn how to live. Before their time runs out.

Contains mature themes.

“supplies, shelter, self-defense”

Praying for Rain is not my first read by BB Easton but her other books are contemporary and this is dystopian. Holy crap y’all.
The story premise is completely original which I appreciate. Since I read so much, many storylines are similar and all blend together. Welp that’s not the case when you read something from BB.
The characters Rain & Wes are broken and essentially fighting for their lives which keeps us as readers edgy and anticipating the next proverbially shoe to drop. I gobbled up every word and I plan to reread before the other 2 books drop.
There is a slight cliffhanger but it’s not enough to recommend waiting for the next 2 books.

Riveting apocalyptic romance!

What worked: wow SO much, this tale is a super gritty leading-up-to-the-apocalypse whirlwind romance. It is three days to the end of days and the glimpse of human nature when they “know” the end of days is neigh seems very realistic, very gritty and a bit terrifying. Rain and Wes start out a bit unlikable (see below) for different reasons, we fall in love with them as slowly and easily as they fall in love with and depend on each other. This isn’t exactly a slow burn - more like a raging inferno that is gradually and tenderly stoked from a small ember. What I thought was going to be a so-so post-apoc teen/NA romance turned into a really epic story. I can’t wait for the next two books but I will say that this book is wrapped up in a nice place romance wise - though you will feel the NEED to read the next books based on where the plot is left. Story and romance and wow that TWIST! - this books has ♠️ ♠️ ♠️ ♠️ ♠️!
What didn’t: mainly the narrators could have been better Alex’s voice for rain was SUPER obnoxious and whole Madeleine wasn’t bad, she was fairly monotone for the majority of the book. I counted maybe 2-3 times where there was actual emotion and excitement. That was the big negative for me, but in spite of that, they were good enough and the story was good enough that I will happily buy the next audiobook. My next negative isn’t exactly a negative per se: there is serious drug abuse, rape is a close call, and other dark themes including Wes putting a gun to Rain’s head to get her to cooperate (in a survival NOT sexual way) that may trigger some. I thought these themes added to the realism of the book and were not gratuitous in nature. So I put this in the negative because they contributed initially to me not LIKING the main characters initially but never fear, you do grow to love them as they grow to love each other ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️
Absolutely worth a credit or two or three!

Absolutely wrecked

Loved this story! The intensity as the story developed and the chemistry between the main characters, I could not stop listening. Great job by the narrators as well. Can’t wait for the next book in this series!

I loved the story but hated the narrators.

The story was great. It was very original and exciting. The narrators...not so much. Rain was 19 in the book. The narrator sounds much older. Wes just sounded fake. Stick with Ramona next time!

Another Amazing Audio by Kydd and Dauer

I could listen to these two go back and forth all day...well, I guess I kind of did. They are so good at keeping the dialogue interesting and building momentum throughout each page. I really loved Praying for Rain. It had such a spooky/interesting take on the end of the world. It was actually surprisingly heartfelt, too! You genuinely cared about the two leads and couldn't help but root for them. Great writing, character development, and above all, great narration by Kydd and Dauer, per usual!

Narration is unbearable

Starting out the storyline does not seem to be that great. But honestly I wouldn’t know because the narration is so bad I had to stop listening.

Horrible male narrator.

You can tell he doesn't actually speak like that. His attempt to sound more maley made him sound stupid. The book started out awesome but he killed it for me.

It took me by surprise!

I wasn't sure this book would be for me, but it took me by surprise and sucked me in. It was the first book by the author I have listened to but it won't be the last. I enjoyed it!
