Publisher's Summary
Horses aren't cheap, and competing event horses is a tough way to make a living.
Jules Thornton is settled at Briar Hill Farm with fellow trainer Pete Morrison, eyes focused on a successful future in eventing, but money is tight and opportunities are dwindling. When a potential sponsor offers Pete a stellar deal, Jules is ready for her big break - but it's not what she was hoping for. She'll have to make hard choices if she wants a future in eventing - and with Pete.
There are fireworks on the horizon as Jules heads south to Florida's vacation-land to meet her new trainer, Grace Carter. The star of "Show Barn Blues" is back to put Jules through her paces and bring her attitude down a notch or two. Can Jules stick out a summer of dressage lessons and high-dollar clients?

Jewels
Although I did like the basic story it had some differences. I wasnt a fan of the plot of Jewels ego and then the story ending so fast felt like there needed a bit smother ending.

The protagonist is a hot-headed know-it-all
I really wanted to like this series. I grew up as a poor kid in the eventing world, showing my $500 gelding, working in the barn for lessons, etc., all of which gave me something to relate to with this character. However, her constant whining, trying to prove she didn't need help from anyone, and unwillingness to even consider the need for coaching was just gross. Even olympians have a coach! She's completely self-absorbed and not a very likable person. I trudged through the first book and only listened to the second hoping she'd mature or see a therapist or something because I'm very interested in the horse side. Alas, she continued being unlikable until the very end where she may have finally seen the error of her ways. I want to continue the series because of the eventing aspect, but I don't think I could tolerate her for another minute.

Insightful! Inspiring! Wish I could write like it.
You must read this if you enjoy riding dressage & jumping or just have dreams of doing so! I was frequently amazed and overjoyed by the author's ability to put details of true horse training techniques seamlessly into the story without making it dry or "instructive". Natalie must be a successful rider/competitor and knows how to bring her readers along on the ride. I thoroughly enjoyed living vicariously through Jules's (the main character) experiences and found Natalie's characters to be infinitely believable and relatable. I feel a sense of gratitude to Natalie for making me want to be a better horsewoman. I hope she never stops writing!
The narration is unemotional, but otherwise very good.
