Publisher's Summary

This program is read by the author.

The New York Times bestselling author and a central figure in the field of meditation, Sharon Salzberg, uses ancient Buddhist wisdom to redefine love and experience it in a more profound way.

You are a person worthy of love. You don’t have to do anything to deserve all the love in the world.

Real Love is a creative tool kit of mindfulness exercises and meditation techniques that help you to truly engage with your present experience and create deeper love relationships with yourself, your partner, friends and family, and with life itself.

Sharon Salzberg, a leading expert in Lovingkindness meditation, encourages us to strip away layers of negative habits and obstacles, helping us to experience authentic love based on direct experience, rather than preconceptions. Across three sections, Sharon explains how to dispel cultural and emotional habits, and direct focused care and attention to recapture the essence of what it is to love and be loved.

With positive reflections and practices, Sharon teaches us how to shift the responsibilities of the love that we give and receive to rekindle the powerful healing force of true connection. By challenging myths perpetuated by popular culture, we can undo the limited definitions that reduce love to simply romance or passion, and give the heart a much needed tune-up to connect ourselves to the truest experience of love in our daily lives.

Enlightening read.

I enjoyed the perspectives taken throughout this book. I also enjoyed visualizing the complex mental processes of being mindful, and the interesting way personal experiences can describe situations through which people learn a lesson of mindfulness. This also directly connects mindfulness to love and compassion, because mindfulness involves considering our impact in a given situation, thus being able to prevent suffering by feeling empathy for others in our projections of the future. The idea that all beings deserve peace and happiness stems from this ability. Mindfulness also involves more subtle thoughts, and the tendency we have to be hard on ourselves, as well as negative about our past. There are insights on forgiving in this book as well, which can help transform your perspective on resentment and unresolved issues.

So good I re-read some chapters multiple times.

Sharon is wise and relatable. I usually speed up audio but her pace is appropriate for the content. her words continue to help me deconstruct my traumatic childhood in a religious cult. I've been able to use her words to guide my meditations and dig deeper than ever into my biases and trauma. Thank you for a wonderful book 😊

Transformative

A journey into the truth. I saw my delusion. Ignorance, gifts, growing edges and where I need to let go. Letting awe, curiosity, grace and real love shine!

I did not care for this book at all!

I would say don't get! She likes listening to herself talk, but the book was actually pointless and not worth listening to or the money spent. she had random thoughts thrown in here and there and there really was no point to the book. I think another book would be better, but not this one. Pointless!!!
