Publisher's Summary

This edition of A Course in Miracles is referred to as the “Original Edition“ and is the Course as it was completed in 1972. This was before there were significant edits in 1975. This edition was discovered in 1999 and was first published by Course in Miracles Society in 2006.

Taken from the original manuscript for the Course, the only editing that has been done to this great spiritual classic has been to correct occasional typographic and spelling errors and to render capitalization and punctuation consistent.

The volume that you will be listening to here is the Text, which is the first of the three-volume set: Text, Workbook, and Manual for Teachers. These volumes were scribed by Helen Schucman with the help of William Thetford, as she listened to an inner voice that identified Itself as Jesus.

The narrator Martin Weber, [maz], is a longtime friend and member of CIMS Europe, a musician, and, of course, a student of A Course in Miracles. Maz sits with the material in meditation before he begins his recording and then adds music that he has composed for a perfect accompaniment.

Reader's accent hard to comprehend

I don't think getting a guy with an accent to read this was the best idea. I find his accent bizarre and it's distracting when trying to wrap my head around the heavy text. I'm not a personal fan of the background music either. I wish I bought a physical copy for this one.

The Course is very interesting, and it's a shame that this audio version isn't great.

My new daily companion

Prior to listening to this gem, I was already a 12 years student of the Course and specifically listened to the other edition of ACIM more than fifteen times. I bought this original edition recording thinking that it would be just a change in listening to a different narrator and a way to go deeper in my meditation with the Course. What a surprise I had... I went through the entire 50 hours of the recording in about 45 days, listening to it mostly during long cross-country skiing outings in nature, and for the first chapter I just thought that the deep experience that I was going through was due to listening to the same Course via another narrator, or the quality of my outdoor experience, but I then realized that it was beyond that... The original edition is the first edition of the Course, the one that Helen Schucman and William Thetford assembled before the extensive edition would take place leading to the most commonly known version. It was found in 1996 as this hand-produced copy that was given to the son of Edgar Cayce resurfaced from the private library where it was kept. Researching about the differences between those two versions I understood that my new experience in listening to the recording of the Course was most likely due to the rawness of the text, the conversational tone that was kept in the original edition, the reference to so many details including the use of the word Soul that disappeared from the FIP version. Mostly it's the direct conversational tone that was the smashing impact that went right through me... The narrator is totally dedicated to bringing this direct conversational tone and since he happens to be the music composer of the underlying soundtrack joined to his reading, I felt that the music contributed to creating an immersive experience in which I totally dived in. I just downloaded the Workbook and the Manual for Teachers as well and I'm going through them as well. I recommend this version and this amazing production to both new listeners f the Course and those that went through it many times. I'm so grateful that it was revealed to me this way and now.

Not what I expected

I find the reader difficult to understand at times. I also am not liking having music in the background.

My new mantra

My heart is lighter and my experience more full. I read the reviews of this version first, and in spite of them, I decided to chance the original version as my desire was to experience this piece of work and it’s an original form. The complaints that I read were that the voice was hard to understand. The recording is quite Bassy and very slow. This can easily be resolved by adjusting the EQ settings on your cell phone or a listening device. Your phone has the ability to speed up the voice and I sped it up to 1.2 and that seemed perfect for the entire book. I then took away a lot of the bass and was easily able to follow along. As well, I felt at the music that was given was in the spirit of what was being presented and I felt it land, rather than took away from it.
Saying all that, I’m glad that I bought it because my intention is to listen to this way more than once. The first time just so can hear what they’re saying, the second time so that I might integrate into my heart what is being revealed, a third time to make it part of me. It’s an ongoing process. I think everyone involved in the project

Good content not good narration.

The content is good but the naraition was not good, to much music and at times the music makes it hard to hear the narrator.

Hard to follow

This is not idea because it was very hard to follow: the sound is not even and the tone is monotone.

the greatest book I've ever read/listened too

this book is the truth. an old idea that has been retold, while at the same time reclaiming concepts that had been hijacked by various institutions. loved it

The book of Truth

I love the audible narration and how it speaks directly to you. I highly recommend this book if you want to know the purpose of Life and who we really are on the inside.

Is the narrator in an echo chamber

I would have had a better experience without the sound effects. Some of the text is difficult to follow

Fantastic, Provides greater clarity

I can hardly put into words how wonderful this reading of ACIM is, as well as how much fuller this edition feels compared to the blue Foundation for Inner Peace edition. There are only minor changes and edits between the few, but the mentions of the souls and angels is helpful my understanding - i feel that it also aligns better with other works such as Gary Renaults Disappearance of the Universe.
I found the narrators voice soothing, pleasant, and easy to listen to. (Who doesn't like being serenaded by a lovely Spanish accent?) The music was actually a really nice touch and gave me time between the phrases to really take in and understand the concepts better.
I am so glad I found this, I can't recommend it enough.
