Publisher's Summary

We all know the system isn’t working. Our governments are corrupt and the opposing parties pointlessly similar. Our culture is filled with vacuity and pap, and we are told there’s nothing we can do: "It’s just the way things are."

In this audiobook, Russell Brand hilariously lacerates the straw men and paper tigers of our conformist times and presents, with the help of experts as diverse as Thomas Piketty and George Orwell, a vision for a fairer, sexier society that's fun and inclusive.

You have been lied to, told there's no alternative, no choice, and that you don’t deserve any better. Brand destroys this illusory facade as amusingly and deftly as he annihilates Morning Joe anchors, Fox News fascists, and BBC stalwarts.

This audiobook makes revolution not only possible but inevitable and fun.

Certainly gives you reasons to think!

I loved that the book was read by Russell. Loved the accent, the humour and the British slang. I am very appreciative of the views, facts and theories of our politics and rule. This book makes you think about all that. I think I now have to go to another of Russell's books as I believe that I got the wrong one which I had intended to. Lol, I am glad for the error.

Absolutely Fabulous

After starting and not finishing the past 15 or so books I have downloaded, I was beginning to think my years as an audible member must have run their natural course. This book proved that untrue. After hearing Brand on NPR on New Years day morning, I downloaded the book and binged listened to it in two days.

This is an incredible book. His delivery is vulnerable, funny, sweet, and packed full of the wisdom of the ages. Clearly he is a man who has "done his work." His charming British accent, incredible story telling, poems, and masterful delivery put this book up there with the greats I have ever listened to.

Some people will rage at the political theory he expresses and miss his point all together. There is something in this book for everyone. You know the treadmill of materialism is grinding you to bits. You know capitalism has us on an unsustainable course destined to bankrupt the environment and steal our very souls.

Listen to this book. Sign up for this program. And do your work along with Brand. 5 out of 5 stars.

This is the one and only book review I have written. I have been an Audible member since 2004...20 books a year. That should tell you something about this book...and me I suppose

Thanks Russell Brand.

Stead On, Mate.

Definitely worth a listen!

I confess, I'd read one of Russell Brand's earlier books and abandoned it due to its repetitive focus on sex and drugs... so I didn't have high hopes for this book.

Well, I'm happy to say I was wrong. In Revolution, Brand shares his perspective about the deepening equality gap and other current societal issues -- it is a fascinating book. Despite Brand's somewhat goofy public persona, he's actually a very bright guy who articulates what so many feel / experience in a way that's engaging and accessible. I found Brand's narration style to be very compelling -- he's fired up and after listening to Revolution, you will be too. Unlike his prior books which were more autobiographical, Brand looks at the world around him in Revolution and ponders how we can all improve society and the world we live in. This is an interesting listen and I highly recommend it.

I EVOL this book

Russell Brand is an intriguing person who has written a book that's both entertaining and thought provoking.

This book is a joy to listen to while at the same time makes you think and wonder about the way the world works. More importantly he proposes some very powerful ideas and concepts for a better and fairer society. It's easy to disagree on certain points but a lot of this really makes sense.

There is some repetition that can get a bit annoying but he does get his point across. It may not be enough to actually start a world wide revolution but is is quite revolutionary to me personally.

A funny man with a conscience

What did you love best about Revolution?

His passion for the subject matter.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Revolution?

No one moment. Throughout the book one feels that indeed not only is his revolution needed but also possible.

What about Russell Brand’s performance did you like?

Glad to see he read the work. There's no doubting he is British which is part of his appeal.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Early on in the book he describes his return to his hometown. You can sense how disappointed he was at how the lives of it's inhabitants had changed only for the worse.

Any additional comments?

Russell Brand’s Revolution is a must. An insightful critique peppered with his own brand of humor. He lays out for all to see what is wrong with contemporary society, especially 'so called' western democracies. The book lays bare for all to see how in need we are for makeover. Evident in his rage is how we’ve all been sold a bill of goods, that greed is good – not. He not only presents to us the worlds maladies he offers possibilities for peaceful revolution if we could only get beyond ourselves. He’s got the gift of gab of a Cornel West, the insight of Norm Chomsky and he’s funny too.

Surprise

This book was selected by a friend for book club...I am sure there will be ladies who will not attempt to open the cover or read the back of the jacket...However, I just finished it on Audible as I worked on rehabilitating our 1979 Airstream...Who is a better leader than a recovering addict with spiritual journal at hand? I have always thought his humor to be raunchy but it made me laugh...Also, when I heard that he had married Katy Perry I thought, "Whaaaaat?" I am a concerned liberal surviving in a small, conservative, rural community. I retired (semi) from education and have taken an interest in our tainted food, health care, corruption and equal rights...Russell tosses out his revolution manifesto like a tequila shot with a humorous Shiracha joke/barb chaser. I can't wait to see how this flies at our book club...😉 He steps in the right direction by donating the profits of this book to recovering addicts..."Russell, you are on my radar!"

Amazingly articulate, insightful, and even joyful

Russell Brand is truly unique thought leader in his ability to lighten up traditionally darker subjects with his kind, vulnerable, honest fearlessness.

Thought provoking

I really loved this book. I think old Russell makes many great points and throws in enough clever wit and one liners to make this thoughtful and entertaining. Russell goes deep on many subjects and casts them in a new and old light. You start to get the picture that Russell is much more deep and highly intelligent then his outward exterior would lead most to believe. The narration is excellent and keeps you hooked in. It might nor be for everyone, but I think everyone and benefit from it.

Rare work of genius in this genre PHENOMENAL

What made the experience of listening to Revolution the most enjoyable?

Tracks his spiritual reawakening, his shift in perspective, his insight gained through mistake after mistake. He is by no means a saint and doesn't claim to be. His indomitable determination is inspirational and his desire to share these pearls of wisdom is such a breath of fresh air in the realm of these trite celebrity advice giving memoirs. Most celebrities have these rich lives, many from rags to riches, and yet when you read what they have to say, nothing to share that could help others. He has something substantive to say. He's spent the time reading, researching, experiencing, and formulating these thoughts. And indeed, these are some very deep thoughts, they will make you think, they will challenge you, and of course it would be impossible for them not to entertain you and make you laugh. He dispells the myths of celebrity, fame, fortune. He calls the Oscars boring and a huge letdown. Nobody says these things. He has serious balls. His past books due to their nature were restricted in what he could express. Now he's laying it all out there. Here it is world, these are my best thoughts, take what you want and leave the rest. We're all in this together. And I'll have you know I had less than favorable notions of him until I became more familiar with his work (standup, interviews). I consider him a role model and wish there were more public figures like him.

What does Russell Brand bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's a performer more than anything else. Just like Amy Poehler or Tina Fey him reading the book is more the way the material should be consumed. His voice, his inflection, his speech patterns, him. It's like a screenwriter also directing the material, more of a complete vision.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Not your usual Brand

As one who has embraced the spiritual life in order to live, I highly suggest that you give our boy a listen. Clear your mind of all preconceived notions and be introduced to a man with a plan. Yes there are some funny bits but that's not the point. I hope I can find something within myself from this point on that will support our oneness, and never look back. Love is the answer. Now is the time. Because God is love and God is now.
