Publisher's Summary

Do you ever wonder what is happening inside your brain when you feel anxious, panicked, and worried? In Rewire Your Anxious Brain, psychologist Catherine Pittman and author Elizabeth Karle offer a unique, evidence-based solution to overcoming anxiety, based in cutting-edge neuroscience and research.

In this audiobook you will learn how the amygdala and cortex (both important parts of the brain) are essential players in the neuropsychology of anxiety. The amygdala acts as a primal response, and oftentimes, when this part of the brain processes fear, you may not even understand why you are afraid. By comparison the cortex is the center of worry - that is, obsessing, ruminating, and dwelling on things that may or may not happen.

Pittman and Karle offer simple, specific examples of how to manage fear by tapping in to both of these pathways in the brain. As you listen, you'll gain a greater understanding of how anxiety is created in the brain, and as a result you will feel empowered and motivated to overcome it.

The brain is a powerful tool, and the more you work to change the way you respond to fear, the more resilient you will become. Using the practical self-assessments and proven-effective techniques in this book, you will learn to literally "rewire" the brain processes that lie at the root of your fears.

Information I needed

Only halfway through the book, and I already have learned so much. Absolutely deserving of a reread. Even if the book doesn’t have any more to share, I fully plan on re-listening to at least the first half again.

Great Read - Helpful

I recently discovered I suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Before I found out and was dealing with allot of stress, panic attacks and anxiety attacks I started reading this book and it helped to calm me. I recommend this book for anyone who suffers from GAD or panic attacks or having a hard time managing anxious feelings. It gives you a clear understanding of where it stems and helps in understating and reducing your own anxiety. Keep in my it isn’t a fix all, but helps to give me peace. Hope it does for you too.

Life Changing

I have been struggling with anxiety for many years and always felt 'crazy' because of it. This book really changed the way that I looked at and treated anxiety. In knowing the certain processes that happen within the mind during moments of anxiety I was able to more easily identify what type of anxiety attack I was having and how to better cope with it! Thank you so much for writing this book it truly changed my life. I highly recommend this to those that are interested in learning about the physical components of anxiety. The explanations of each part of the brain in this book are thorough, so if you have an open mind and are willing to learn a little about anatomy then it's a fairly easy listen! :D

Great book

This book provided excellent scientific background information and very practical ways to cope with all of the weird discomforting thoughts associated with anxiety.
The narration was excellent easy to follow and understand. I loved being able to replay chapters.

Sheds light

I am listening for a second time. There will probably be a third and fourth. There is a lot of valuable information and normalisation of experience, which is helpful.

wish there was more focus on exercises

I found it really helpful to know the whys of my anxiety, but I felt like the exercises were glossed over rather than being fully explained like the rest of the text.

Helped me a lot!

all you need is hard work

good book gives logic to the ilogic.... but as any other book in anxiety.... you need to work hard to get there! relief won't fall in your lap.... don't be discouraged.... it will pass ...
just some of the terminology might sound to complicated... but overall is a good of many tools that will help you to get out of the hole.
