This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Publisher's Summary
Now the acclaimed HBO series Game of Thrones - the masterpiece that became a cultural phenomenon
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn; his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon; his daughters Sansa and Arya; and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queen's brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister - the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind.
All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms. Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki - whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys.

"Grabs hold and won't let go. It's brilliant." (Robert Jordan)
"This novel is an absorbing combination of the mythic, the sweepingly historical, and the intensely personal." (Chicago Sun-Times)

The narration leaves much to be desired.
First off, the book is incredible, extremely detailed and fleshed out. However, the narration leaves much to be desired. From odd pronunciations to flat out mispronunciations of character names and locations within the world, to the narrators inability to keep character voices the same throughout the book, I can't help but feel the Game of Thrones audio book series would benefit from a better narrator.
In a series with literally thousands of characters is does not bode well that the majority of characters sound roughly the same, be they men or women, though the female character voices are vastly worse than their male counterparts.

Horrible narration
The narration was so horrible I couldn't muster the strength to put up with even a singular chapter. The narrator has no grasp of accents and character building, the accent for each character changes too rapidly, much to the listeners annoyance. The writing could not salvage the horrible narration for me.

Horrible narrator.
How did they actually let this narrator continue?
Roy manages to make anyone who isn't 13 sound like a blubbering old man and it just ruins the story. Just read the gd book, we don't need to hear your idea of their voice.

Thouroughly entertaining story
The story is great, and I love being able to take it with me wherever I go. The performance is ok. The narrator mis-pronounces names and will one moment read a name correctly and then later on read that name incorrectly. That’s a bit annoying, but other than that it’s fine.

Outstanding book. Great voice acting.
I’m specifically writing this to compliment Roy Dotrice’s narrating skills (Everybody knows the book is great). Even though the narrator can sometimes take weird voices that get hard to understand (Varys), I still like how much he reflects the characters emotions in his voice. It really emerges you in the story. He’s also very good at changing voices for different characters, in ways that fit GRRM’s definitions. He gives life to the characters.

Amazing book
I've watched the entire game of thrones series multiple times and always wanted to read the books. Only problem with the books is their massive and would take months to read for me, audible solves this problem as I love to listen.
Thanks audible! #Audible1

Voice Acting
I really loved this audiobook, it's a fantastic story. Unfortunately it is entirely read by one person, and is in desperate need of more voices. I think that even the addition of a woman to read the female parts would add so much to the experience. Still a great listen!

Get lost in another world for a time
This story is full of amazing characters living lives full of love, laughter, joy, fear, terror, and great acts of bravery brought to vivid life by the narration of Mr Dotrice. So grab a cup of tea or a glass of wine and sit back to enjoy this world created by Mr. Martin come into being.
