Publisher's Summary

The world is falling to the burning shadow of the Possessed and only the power of a battle mage can save it. But the ancient bond with dragonkind is failing. Of those that answer a summoning too many are black. Black dragons are the enemy of humankind. Black dragons are mad.

Falco Dante is a weakling in a world of warriors, but worse than this, he is the son of a madman. Driven by grief, Falco makes a decision that will drive him to the brink of despair. As he tries to come to terms with his actions Falco follows his friends to the Academy of War, an elite training school dedicated to martial excellence. But while his friends make progress he struggles to overcome his doubts and insecurity. Even Queen Catherine of Wrath has her doubts about Falco's training.

While the Queen tries to unite the Kingdoms against the Possessed, Falco struggles to overcome his fears. Will he unlock the power trapped inside him or will he succumb to madness and murder like his father?

Consistently inconsistent

I liked the story and narration in general but it was extremely annoying when the narrator would pronounce a persons’s name in 2 different ways. How was that not noticed by the director or editor? And its a main character- not just someone who shows up occasionally.

Great story but

the story was terrific but the quality of the recording was very bass heavy and it was hard to hear what was being said sometimes.

good book, small errors in reading

Overall a good an entertaining story. However, the reader occasionally changes how he pronounces names (especially Malaki, even once referred to Falco as Falcon). These kinds of error happen, but a good recording director or similar role should have caught it even if the reader didn't notice it themselves.

Also some other words are pronounced as if the reader is unfamiliar with English (though overall it is obvious that is not the case). For example, the reader pronounces combatants more like competents.

One of the best

And I have read a lot. It toyed but then broke with cliche plot lines of the genre. Just a pleasant surprise. And the length was a bonus. :)

A lot of staring into other's eyes.

Really good story but the amount of staring into one another's eyes and crying almost made me think it was gonna break out into some homosexual erotica.

Great story

The story was great, however there were a lot of issues with the actual recording. Still enjoyable though.

Unique

The narration was a bit hard to get behind at times but the way that the author used the ideas of fear and courage as tangible elements was unique and compelling. Would definitely recommend.

Very Entertaining

Entertaining book, interesting characters, very good narrator. Keep me interested the whole way through. I liked that it was a complete story not a series.
