Publisher's Summary

A magical serial killer is on the loose, and gelatinous, otherworldly creatures are infesting the English countryside. Which is making life for the Ministry of Occultism difficult, because magic is supposed to be their best kept secret.

After centuries in the shadows, the Ministry is forced to unmask, exposing the country's magical history - and magical citizens - to a brave new world of social media, government scrutiny, and public relations.

On the trail of the killer are the Ministry's top agents: a junior operative with a photographic memory (and not much else), a couple of overgrown schoolboys with godlike powers, and a demonstrably insane magician.

But as they struggle for results, their superiors at HQ must face the greatest threat the Ministry has ever known: the forces of political correctness....

Differently Morphous is the latest and greatest tale to emerge from the mind of writer (and narrator) Yahtzee Croshaw.

A funny, well natured jab at PC culture.

To put my review in perspective a bit, I identify as a pretty politically correct person.

To summarize this book in a sentence: a Terry Pratchett-esque jaunt with a lovable cast of misfits who work for a secret magical society that fight eldritch Lovecrafitan horrors and PR-obsessed bureaucracy.

There's a lot to love here, but my favorite part is the handling of our modern outrage and PC culture. Like all great satire, both sides of the debate get a good ribbing. The tone isn't dismissive of either side, but pokes fun at both, and I think that lets us have a healthier debate about the entire thing.

I was worried that with the passing of Sir Terry, we'd be short on hilarious, poignant fantastical novels, but I see now we didn't need to worry. We've got Yahtzee Crowshaw.

Amazing

I love these books by audible! It was so funny. They make it just what you’d like to hear. It’s perfect for audio books. Thank you for dr. Diablery’s character. The whole book was fun and funny and the right a pint of mystery! Please keep making more of these only from audible books!

The Comedy Of The Elder Gods

Really enjoyed this audiobook. Yahtzee's narration is expressive and fun. The story was enjoyable- not perfect, but worthwhile, with great mysteries and imaginative moments. One of my highlights was the undertone of social commentary, in my opinion quite balanced and fair, in a way that some of it I resonated with and some I did not, but I can respect that the 'politics' didn't feel like pandering to one set of opinions or another. A smart and comedic take on the Lovecraftian influences. #Audible1

Quite a Fun Listen!

At first I was a bit bothered by his tone, it seemed to sound angry no matter who he was reading for. Could just be my experience with him and his Zero Punctuation bit (which I love), but I eventually got over it. The story was interesting, fun and quite possibly had a hidden meaning/lesson. Others have put it more eloquently than I have regarding this.

Looks like I will be looking for more of his works on Audible, since I've already read Jam and Mogworld.

A funny take on PC culture during a social shift

I found this book entertaining on the surface but below, I found a very interesting take on how culture shifts affect old systems, the rise and fall of those systems and the response of the public. A great listen for sure.

pleasantly surprised

got this book as a discount and decided to try it. as someone whose never heard of Yahtzee I was expecting more of a kids book, lit listening whole I work. was blown away how funny it was, as well as 'modern' in terms of jokes and poking fun at exacerbated 'woke' culture. definitely okay for younger readers but I was laughing to myself as a 30 something and really quite enjoyed it.

Stellar vocal performance, good flow

Great narration, clever world building, good balance of comedy and story. The story has a great flow to it and never feels too comedic to be seriously engaging, nor too dry to spark interest. Given how much fun this one was, I'd be very interested in a sequel, even though I suspect Yahtzee won't rush it out anytime soon.

Charmingly British

If you’re a fan of Douglas Adams’ wit and absurdist humour then this story may feel right at home. Yahtzee is fantastic at simile and his voice performance is outstanding. I’m eager to see where this story goes.
