Sylvie Rossi has the loner thing down pat, with the exception of her best friend, Grace. But when the two are trapped in a hospital during the last gasp of a dying city, alone time is no longer an option. A nurse's offer of sanctuary promises Sylvie the supplies she needs to survive the zombies - it's the coexisting with people that might do her in. Cassie Forrest isn't surprised to learn that the day she’s decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Publisher's Summary
From the universe of the Until the End of the World series
Book two of The City Series is here! (Note: The City Series can be heard before or after the Until the End of the World series)
Months into the apocalypse, the zombies show no signs of dying, but it's clear everyone in Sunset Park will die without enough food to outlast the undead. Add in the less-than-sociable new neighbors only blocks away, and the hunt for sustenance has come to feel more like a race than a ramble.
Sylvie is happy in her new home with the people who've become like family, though she's still working out how to let them into her heart. Eric wants in, and he wants to find his sister, but he can't do both at the same time. If he can do the second one at all - getting into the city was hard enough, getting out may prove impossible.
Despite setbacks - and a couple million zombies - it seems fortune is working in their favor. After all, food, security, and family are extraordinary when just being alive is a notable accomplishment. But fortune can turn on a dime, and all it takes is one misstep.

Zombies 1 - Romance 0
While I love the zombie filled world in this series, the “romantic” dialogue between Sylvie and Eric is unforgivable. It’s SO bad that it redefines the meaning “cringe-worthy” taking it to a whole new level. The zombie parts of the book are good. So are the parts about trying to build a community of people working together to survive. That’s the only reason I kept reading because I wanted to stick needles in my eyes every time I had to get through another Sylvie/Eric romantic scene.

Couldn’t stop listening
This book is an amazing second instalment in The City series. While the narration is a little wonky at times, it’s still fabulously done. The story just keeps getting better and with the high highs come the low lows. We lost some people and there will be tears, but the survivors fight on in this realistic zombie apocalypse.

A post apocalyptic zombie masterpiece
This post apocalyptic zombie adventure is filled with charismatic characters, action, danger and romance. The storyline is smooth flowing and chalk full, keeping your interest from the first word until the last. I enjoyed the character interaction, the action scenes and the insights into human nature. All of which is told within the story of two main characters making the novel gripping and engaging. I can hardly wait until the next book in the series.
The performance was amazing.

READ THIS SERIES (and Until the End of the World)!
Hello audible!
First of all, Sarah Lyons Fleming is incredible. I’m such a fan of her writing. I real all 7 of her books (from til the world ends to the next book in this series, Instauration) starting with Until the world ends (and that series first). I loved the characters, I loved the writing, I loved the story etc etc. I can’t wait for her next series to come available on audible in a few months. I’ve recommended these books to so many people and I most definitely recommend them to you! ENJOY! I wish I could do it all over again.
