Publisher's Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In the final book in The Iron Druid Chronicles, two-thousand-year-old Druid Atticus O’Sullivan confronts the Norse gods Loki and Hel to stop the impending apocalypse, while Granuaile and Owen work to secure the future of Druidry.

“[Kevin] Hearne draws his Iron Druid Chronicles to a pitch-perfect close in this dizzy, world-hopping adventure. But amidst the battles and bargaining that go into saving the world, there is also an enormous amount of heart.”—
RT Book Reviews

Unchained from fate, the Norse gods Loki and Hel are ready to unleash Ragnarok, a.k.a. the Apocalypse, upon the earth. They’ve made allies on the darker side of many pantheons, and there’s a globe-spanning battle brewing that ancient Druid Atticus O’Sullivan will be hardpressed to survive, much less win.

Granuaile MacTiernan must join immortals Sun Wukong and Erlang Shen in a fight against the Yama Kings in Taiwan, and she discovers that the stakes are much higher than she thought.

Meanwhile, Archdruid Owen Kennedy must put out both literal and metaphorical fires from Bavaria to Peru to keep the world safe for his apprentices and the future of Druidry.

And Atticus recruits the aid of a tyromancer, an Indian witch, and a trickster god in hopes that they’ll give him just enough leverage to both save Gaia and see another sunrise. There is a hound named Oberon who deserves a snack, after all.

What the critics say

“[Kevin] Hearne is a terrific storyteller with a great snarky wit. . . . Neil Gaiman’s American Gods meets Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden.”SFFWorld

“[The Iron Druid books] are clever, fast-paced and a good escape.”Boing Boing

“Hearne understands the two main necessities of good fantasy stories: for all the wisecracks and action, he never loses sight of delivering a sense of wonder to his readers, and he understands that magic use always comes with a price. Highly recommended.”The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction

Loved It

I think this is the first time an ending has ever truly surprised me, and yet it feels so right. The author stayed true to the characters and their choices and gave us the ending we deserved, not the one we may have wanted. And, as always, Luke Daniels was stellar and had me laughing out loud like a crazy person. This series will always have a special place in my library.

A Mixed Ending...

I will precursor this by saying I will keep this spoiler free and focus entirely on the feeling/writing construction. That being said...

I love this series and it is definitely in my top three of all time for novel series I enjoy. I would still recommend it to anyone, despite what I am about to say about this novel in particular. So bare with me.

This latest installment was a bit of a letdown for me. I expected an epic ending, full of emotion, anger, hurt, grief but with some hope too. I did get some epic and most of the rest... but the novel was a lot of detours, inconsequential sections that made it hard to care about certain characters, or certain scenarios, and I got an overall feeling of it deconstructing all that has been established, built, and assumed to be true in the previous books. There were moments of great emotion but unfortunately there were far more moments of frustration that pulled me out of the story. These moments were because I felt the characters behaved out-of-character for what they have been established to be in the previous novels. I don't like when a series builds characters and then turns around and gives me something else. Unfortunately this novel does that.

So all that being said, this series is still phenomenal and well worth the read. The writing style alone makes it worth it, but the characters, humour and atmosphere are all worthy of every moment of time put into devouring the story. Luke Daniels adds his voice to it here on audible, and as far as I am concerned, I will always hear his voice as that of Atticus. He really does immerse the listener in the story. I hope everyone gets a chance to go through this tale with Atticus, Granuaile, and Owen.

Excellent Read

An easy listen, following the storyline and enough action to keep you interested. In other words, I brought the next book in rhe series.

Fabulous story, fabulous audiobook!

I got into these books based off of a recommendation by a friend and I am soooooo glad that I read them all!!! Super fun storyline, great character developments. The writing style is fantastic (although the switching between first-person-past and first-person-present was a bit jarring at first), and the story is captivating.
Luke Daniels does an amazing job narrating these books, and Scourged was no exception. It's always so much more enjoyable an experience when the narrator does VOICES for the characters!!! Luke did an incredible job bringing Kevin Hearne's characters to life. I strongly recommend the entire series to anyone who is a fan of fantasy fiction. Great reads!!!

Scourged... Not bad but not the best.

Luke Daniels is as always amazing. A decent end for the series. Not my favourite.

Love this series!

Kevin Hearne finishes this series as strongly as he began it. I was hooked from the first book to the last. The story keeps you hooked throughout the entire book, I couldn't put it on pause! Luke Daniels is such a great narrator that he made the book sound like it was written specifically for him to read! Highly recommend this series! #Audible1
