Publisher's Summary

After the devastating battle at the Tower of Charm, Croaker leads the greatly diminished Black Company south, in search of the lost Annals. The Annals will be returned to Khatovar, 8,000 miles away, a city that may exists only in legend...the origin of the first Free Companies.

Every step of the way, the Company is hounded by shadowy figured and carrion-eating crows. As they march every southward, through bug infested jungle; rivers dense with bloodthirsty pirates; and cities, dead and living, haunted by the passage of the Company north, their numbers grow until they are thousands strong. But always they are watched by the Shadowmasters, a deadly new enemy. They are twisted creatures that deal in darkness and death, powerful, shadowy creatures bent on smothering the world in their foul embrace.

This is the first round in a deadly game, a game that the Black Company cannot hope to win.

An excellent gritty fantasy adventure

Marc Vietor’s narration continues to nail the down-to-earth tone of The Black Company books. Gritty fantasy may be an overdone trope nowadays but The Black Company shines as one of the originators of the genre. Part adventure and part war story, Shadow Games is an exciting leap into the next volume of the series, always moving in unexpected directions.

Love this series

I've read this series a few times before I ever started listening to audiobooks. It's one of my favorite Dark Fantasy series. Marc Vietor does a great job telling the story.

That said I won't be buying any more audiobooks in this series except book nine because it has Mark Vieter. I like Jonathan Davis and Macleod Andrews both, I have several audiobooks narrated by both of them. But I can't stand it when they change up the narrator. And this series changes narrators like normal people change socks. Please, audible, authors, whoever has final say: STOP DOING THIS.
