Publisher's Summary

One of our most innovative, popular thinkers takes on - in exhilarating style - one of our key questions: "Where do good ideas come from?"

With Where Good Ideas Come From, Steven Johnson pairs the insight of his best-selling Everything Bad Is Good for You and the dazzling erudition of The Ghost Map and The Invention of Air to address an urgent and universal question: What sparks the flash of brilliance? How does groundbreaking innovation happen?

Answering in his infectious, culturally omnivorous style, using his fluency in fields from neurobiology to popular culture, Johnson provides the complete, exciting, and encouraging story of how we generate the ideas that push our careers, our lives, our society, and our culture forward.

Very scientific

the book dives deep into the history of ideas and the environments that make them possible. literally dating back to the dawn of life, Johnson makes the case that good ideas are most likely to arise the more the freer the environment. Great thesis but it could have been a touch less thorough.

Insightful!

I really enjoyed the breadth of historical stories and concepts Johnson explores in this book. He dives into detail on interesting historical breakthroughs and then ties each story to a larger concept, cementing it’s relevance.

Great title for a different book

I feel this book does not match it's title. Fabulous book if the title was "Trivia of historic discoveries in time". I wish I had not wasted my time or money. There is valuable content in this book but you will only get a few suggestions that could be said in a few minutes, the other 8hrs or so is a lot of repeating itself over and over rambling on and on.

The reader did a good job so i gave performance 4 stars.
