It could have been so much better

I really wanted this book to succeed the first instalment wasn’t great . Poorly written with moments where your left feeling more attached to the side characters than the actual hero. But the idea behind it was intriguing so I re- upped for the second book hoping the author would find his rythem in the second instalment. Oh wow was I ever wrong . It feels like the first draft that needs another ten to work all the kinks out . And for me you can’t have a good story if you don’t connect with protagonist Colten doesn’t seem to have a personality he’s just whatever the current circumstance foists upon him . And the idea that ( spoiler alert) Des is this super powerful being for the first two books that is “ watching over Colten “ and yet somehow doesn’t see any reason to fill him in on literally anything about himself or the super race he’s a part of , is so obviously catering to the big reveal at the end of the second book that all sense of order or logic is completely lost. In the end nothing is what it seems and the sad part is you can’t even bring yourself to care . The author seems to be obsessed with his own cleverness when his true promise lies in the concept of the story. The reader did his best with this convoluted mess and he can’t be blamed for someone else’s sins . Read only if the dictionary is unavailable.
