Publisher's Summary

Ravi Zacharias and Abdu Murray invite listeners to rediscover the cultural insights we often miss when we ignore the Eastern context of the Bible. They offer a refreshing picture of Jesus, one that appeals to Eastern listeners and can penetrate the hearts and imaginations of postmodern Westerners.

In Seeing Jesus from the East, Ravi Zacharias and Abdu Murray show us why a broader view of Jesus is needed - one that recognizes the uniquely Eastern ways of thinking and communicating found in the pages of the Bible. Zacharias and Murray capture a revitalized gospel message, presenting it through this Eastern lens and revealing its power afresh to Western hearts and minds.

Incorporating story, vivid imagery, and the concepts of honor and shame, sacrifice, and rewards, Seeing Jesus from the East calls believers and skeptics, both Eastern and Western, to a fresh encounter with the living and boundless Jesus.

This book is so important!

I have lived in the Middle East for 15 years and coming from the West- I had to learn a lot!

This book articulated the eastern perspective so well in a way people from the West can understand! I highly recommend it.

An eye-opening and a new perspective

Every part of this book caught my attention. I could not stop listening to it. It felt like I am listening to rich stories with many new and valuable lessons. I am a Bible teacher who tries to make the Bible real for people, so this book was after my heart.
Now I am seeing some parables in more depth and understand the metaphors as they were told in Eastern culture.
For the first time, I thought of the story of the good samaritan and how Jesus would tell it these days. Now I understood what did Jesus mean in Matthew 16:28. I have a better understanding of shame/honor culture, Biblical stand on slavery, and gender equality.
Thank you Both for such great work. God bless you

Note: Rev. Ravi Zacharias' preaching of the good news has changed my life since he visited my Damascus Church when I was a college student. I have learned a lot from his teaching since then.

Cross-cultural and text-based

Phenomenal book incorporating both East & West. If you are particularly someone who has been raised and/or exposed in both worlds, this gives you a glimpse of how the two can be reconciled.

East meets West

A wonderful way of helping a westerner to see and be reminded of the universality of scripture. I can’t think of two better more qualified persons than Rabí and Abdu to write this book. What an amazing and fresh look at the life of Jesus than helping us see it through eastern eyes.

My Favorite Ravi Book

I have read most of Ravi's books, and this one really struck me. Maybe it was because it was published so close to his (Ravi's) death, which I'm still mourning, maybe it was because it was written to honor Nabeel, who I still mourn, but this book really hits a home run on the validity of the Bible and Jesus' divinity. These two authors effectively put into context where Jesus came from when teaching us (both in ancient days and today) just how we are to live to fulfill God's will for our lives. I can't praise this book enough. Please do yourself, friends and family a favor and read/listen to this book. On the negative side, I was horrified that the reader pronounced Ravi's wife, Margie's name wrong. Kind of a big deal since it is obvious that no one producing this audio book was familiar with the author's work.

Great explanations

Loved it. Thought explanations in the book. I have rethought several teachings that I have been thought over the years. Every person should read, and listen to this book.

<br />Good book, poor performance

This book would have been so much better if the narrator hadn't been so monotone and used some inflection. To my ear, he made the book hard to listen to without falling asleep. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have been the case with a different narrator.
