An original new series, with heart-pounding suspense and surprising twists.

Meet Louie Thorne. They didn't kill her - and they'll soon regret it.

When DEA agent Jack Thorne's house is stormed by vengeful drug lords, both he and his wife are shot dead. Only his daughter Louie survives - by using a terrifying power that defies reason.

Piecing together a life in his absence, Louie embraces her gift and her rage under the force of a single need: revenge.

She will destroy the men that took her family. No matter the cost, no matter how many bullets, she won't stop until justice has been well and truly served.

Not quite as good as the Sullivan series

I heard a sample of this at the end of one of her other books and it sounded awesome so I got it. To me, the sample was the best part of the book. I really love Hollie Jackson's narration, but not for the voice of the main character, Lou. It reminds me of "Horatio" in CSI Miami - someone who is trying too hard to be mysterious. That made the main character completely unbelievable for me, notwithstanding the 'slipping' abilities.
I did enjoy the rest of the characters, however, especially Robbie King and Lucy. Piper and Mel were likeable as well. The story itself was intriguing because of Lou's nemesis and the last person on her list, and his fascination with her. It wasn't an overtly sexual book, nor was the violence overblown.
I note recurrent themes to Shrum's stories - feminism, lesbianism (each story I've heard has one) and a flash of social justice warrior. If that isn't your thing it's fairly easy in this book to overlook. All in all an okay listen. I am going to look for a second in the series to try to discern whether or not I will continue with this author.
Kudos to Hollie Jackson. She is the most comfortable narrator I've heard to date. Often, at the beginning of a story, it's obvious the narrator is reading. Jackson never does this - she slips into the characters completely, right from the get-go. Her accents are great and I'm not sure how many languages she actually speaks, but it's clear to me that she's paying attention to her diction and accents.
