About this listen

The #1 New York Times bestseller from FOX News star of Tucker Carlson Tonight offers “a targeted snipe at the Democrats and Republicans and their elite enablers” (New York Journal of Books) in a funny political commentary on how America’s ruling class has failed everyday Americans.

“Informal and often humorous…an entertainingly told narrative of elite malfeasance” (Publishers Weekly), Tucker Carlson’s Ship of Fools tells the truth about the new American elites, a group whose power and wealth has grown beyond imagination even as the rest of the country has withered. The people who run America now barely interact with it. They fly on their own planes, ski on their own mountains, watch sporting events far from the stands in sky boxes. They have total contempt for you.

In Ship of Fools, Tucker Carlson offers a blistering critique of our new overlords and answers the all-important question: How do we put the country back on course? Traditional liberals are gone, he writes. The patchouli-scented hand-wringers who worried about whales and defended free speech have been replaced by globalists who hide their hard-edged economic agenda behind the smokescreen of identity politics. They’ll outsource your job while lecturing you about transgender bathrooms. Left and right, Carlson says, are no longer meaningful categories in America. “The rift is between those who benefit from the status quo, and those who don’t.”

Our leaders are fools, Carlson concludes, “unaware that they are captains of a sinking ship.” But in the signature and witty style that viewers of Tucker Carlson Tonight enjoy so much, Ship of Fools is “bulging with big and interesting ideas, presented succinctly with wit and precision, each chapter a potential book in itself” (The Washington Times).

My only knowledge of Tucker Carlson was limited and superficial before reading this book. Like most people my age (mid-twenties), I had seen videos of his Fox show on Youtube. I had a neutral opinion of him, found him sometimes right, sometimes wrong, sometimes open-minded, sometimes stubborn, etc. This audiobook is a deep dive into Carlson’s opinion on different topics (most of them politically charged), and it is not what you’d expect. This format allows him to throughly develop his positions and opinions in a way he simply could not do on his show. I devoured the book within a few days. Once you’re done listening to the book, I recommend you go watch his interview with Ben Shapiro during one his recent “Sunday Special”. It’s on Youtube and it’s a great one. Enjoy!

Happily surprised, Tucker is much more nuanced than you’d expect, trust me

Tucker Carlson is one of the important conservative voices in the 21st century. In this book he clearly describes how American elites are undoing the fabric on what made America one of the greatest countries in the world, while pointing fingers of both sides of the isle. Rare and refreshing.

Excellent listen for new conservatives

Tucker is always entertaining you can't go wrong there. Only complaint is that its too short without enough depth.

Enjoyable

Tucker Carlos demonstrates without a shadow of the doubt that he’s one of today’s most advanced thinkers.

The writing as well as narration are very factual and straight forward.

If you even mildly consider yourself as a modern thinker or intellectual- this book is a must read.

A must read for the 21st century intellectual

If you ever get that gut feeling that something isn’t quite right in today’s society - be it political agendas, gender topics, climate change, right vs left etc. - this book will surely offer clarity.

It was so refreshing to listen to such a well-written account of what’s going on in the world. Tucker is very honest, succinct, and isn’t afraid to tell it how it is.

He doesn’t go on long meandering rants about his personal opinions which is very nice. He lays out information and creates clear arguments for what the evidence shows. I’m very glad we have people willing to put in the time and do the research to tie things together like this.

I finished this book in one straight shot and found myself annoyed by anyone calling me or messaging me, subsequently interrupting, no matter how urgent the message. Tucker's wit and comedic timing shine through and make this an absolute pleasure to listen to and I was glad he narrated it himself. I didn't agree with everything in it, but honestly would have been disappointed if I had, knowing it would mean I've fallen prey to ideology rather than empiricism. That being said, even the points of disagreement I found interesting and thought provoking. He easily and quickly expounds the way our world seems to be loosing its grip on reality. Also nice to hear was his bipartisan stance, he calls our Republicans when it is diligent to do so. Definitely a great books, and I won't be surprised if I find myself listening to it a second or even third time!

If you like Tucker, you'll love this book
