Publisher's Summary

One bath wall is a mural of a brilliant-yellow sunflower. The theme carries over to the shower curtains, but the yellow vinyl is spattered with red blotches. Propped against the mirror is a South Kitsap High School photo of a teenaged girl.

Detective Megan Carpenter is no stranger to horrifying crime scenes, but when she arrives at the home of a woman whose body has been brutalized, Megan is shocked to discover that she knows the victim. Monique Delmont helped Megan when she was in danger years ago. And the killer has left a disturbing calling card...two laminated photographs of a 16-year-old high school girl - Megan.

Someone is taunting her in the worst way possible, and Megan is convinced she knows who is responsible. She just has to find him.

With the help of her new partner, Deputy Ronnie Marsh, Megan begins to unravel the clues that will lead them to the killer including links to three female murder cases from nearly 20 years ago - one of which was Monique’s daughter.

But to protect those closest to her, Megan must continue to hide the dark truth of her past, even if that means lying to her team about her connection to Monique.

When two photographs of a teenage Megan are found at her boyfriend’s place in Snow Creek, she knows the killer is circling and ready to strike again.

Can she get to him before he finds her? And will she pay the ultimate price for trying to keep her terrifying past buried?

An addictive edge-of-your-seat crime thriller from the number one New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Amazon Charts best-selling author.

Finished it just to be done with it

I always love Karen Peakes narration but Olsens writing wasn't his best in this third book of the Megan Carpenter series. We know enough about Megan's personality from book 1 and 2 but Olsen repeats things as if we're first time listeners. We get it, she's got haunted past. At the same time he still hasn't answered other important facts about Megan's past that, let's be honest, should have been revealed by now. There's just a lot of gaps and irrelevant side stories. Similar to book 2... Olsens lost me on this one. If there's a fourth book, I won't even bother. The series has a lot of potential but Olsens got to pick it up and get organized. He and his main character are just a hot mess.

Things to Hide

I don't usually listen to Fiction, but this was enjoyable. Trying to keep facts secret was a hard thing.

Meh - Sort of Spoiler Alert

I like Gregg Olsen’s books but this one has me off this series. The main character is a hot mess to the point of my just not liking her. The point where she goes off on her own to confront the killer and then later wonders why her boss compliments the young rookie but not her???? She would have been dead if not for the rookie. I guess I just really don’t like Megan so no more of this series for me. Sorry

The stalker

Someone is stalking our favorite Jefferson County detective…but is it who she thinks it is? Detective Megan Carpenter is a great detective, but she has a past that is best left buried. Another great book that keeps you guessing.

Action Packed Thriller

Hi intensity with Detective Megan Carpenter that had killer on her tail seeking revenge. I don’t know how Megan can even function when she spends all her time trying to hide her pass and her choices. She has purposely killed these bad people who are killers. She sees herself as a monster also, but has a monster tries to rid the world of evil monsters. Lots of action don’t miss this book!

Blah!

I’m really trying, the story could be good but the narrator is so flat and I feel that every scene runs into the other. It’s pretty boring.

Too unlikely

I like Megan Carpenter. Ronnie. and the Sheriff. But this story starts off way too gorey. I had to skip over the details of the murder.
Detective Carpenter is allowed too many passes by Sheriff Tony and puts a lot of people in harm's way. I don't believe this would be allowed in an actual sheriff's department.
But I contiue to listen because I like everyone and want to find out what happens.
So I am sucked in. I will read the final book. I can't believe their is another bad man out to get her. The list goes on and on!

Enjoyed this one as well!

So glad that Karen Peakes also narrated this book. She's very good! I like Magan, a woman after my own heart. She's sort of like a female Dexter. I hope that there'll be another book forthcoming in this series .
