Publisher's Summary

Featuring a conversation with the authors!

In this spectacular father/son collaboration, Stephen King and Owen King tell the highest of high-stakes stories: What might happen if women disappeared from the world of men?

In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place....

The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain?

Set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women's prison, Sleeping Beauties is a wildly provocative, gloriously absorbing father/son collaboration between Stephen King and Owen King.

Loved And Hated

Sleeping Beauties, to keep it simple, while I loved the story and narrator did a tremendous! job at brining each individual charter to life. I absolutely HATED the ending. The novel spends the whole book building up too what I thought would be an amazing climatic ending, only have the story just peter out and end so disappointingly borning. The ending left me with the thought of "Why the hell did I just waste my time on this?"

Not bad, not great

It’s a decent book. In the interview at the end Owen and Stephen King state they were going to write this as a tv show - it shows. This reads more like a weekly tv episode then a novel. So so.

Disappointing

I wanted to love this book, after all it's Stephen King! But... I felt like I could tell when he was writing and when his son Owen was writing. It just didn't have the pacing of a typical King book of the genre. It seemed to go off on too many tangents and subplot developments that didn't seem necessary to the story. I found myself getting bored and wishing something, anything, would happen to push the story on but it tended to get bogged down in so many places. I feel like I'm committing sacrilege because I do enjoy so many of Mr. King' s books.... Just not this one.

Meh

The story is interesting enough to want to finish I suppose and the voice actor was amazing at giving the many (too many) characters their own voices and personalities. The writing however is a little lacklustre. The characters are cliche and predictable and none of them are particularly likeable. The plot takes on so many different political and social stances that it almost feels condescending and also you’re left wondering what the point was at all. If you’ve got a spare 25 hours then sure give it a listen but you aren’t missing anything spectacular if you don’t.

throughly enjoyed

I found the story to really force myself in to thinking about the human condition, about the perceived, stereotypical differences between the sees and how I myself viewed these stigmas. it's very easy to say women are gentle and men are aggressive but there are always exceptions to the rule. With how society has evolved, how fine the line has become between male and female that I was continously finding myself falling into the stereotype belief of the difference between the sees only to then find the authors calling out those same stereotypes. This novel is an excellent read/listen, thoroughly entertaining as well as thought provoking. I highly recommend listening to this and once you emerge from the tale take time to to evaluate your own belief system and how much you buy into the stereotypes or on the other hand how much has your belief system changed? I just found the whole experience very interesting.

Boring

Struggled to finish it. Not enough show don't tell. Corny jokes. Redundant
I am a big Stephen King fan. The person reading the book only had a number of voices that she used for multiple characters so it was confusing.

Boring book

The story was boring and the characters were poorly developed. I did not become invested in the characters like I usually do with Stephen King's books. The ending was a disappointment - anti-climatic. Don't waste your time on this book.

Disappointing

Second book by a son.... this one co-authored. Not up to par. I listened to the entire book but it was painful. I should have heeded the reviews :(

Just pathetic!!

I love almost all Stephen king novels, but I want my money back on this one. No plot, no purpose, the worst character development and an ending nothing short of lazy. The narrator was ok, but could have done a better job distinguishing the characters

Terrible

This book was terrible as nd very boring. I could not get too involved as I usually do with King novels. I should have read the reviews before wasting my money.

Sleeping reader

I have read or listened to just about every Stephen King book and unfortunately this one has to go at the bottom of the favorites list.

I found it dragged on way too long in most places and while the premise of the story had promise if felt it got lost down side roads and distractions along the way.

Rather than my usual “don’t want to turn it off” I found myself thinking “I have to get through this and hope it gets better”. It didn’t.

The kings worst yet.

Slow. They should have spent more time in prison. For writing this drivel. I’m a king fan. 11/22/63 is my favorite book of all time.

So dry & drawn out.

I wasnt even able to finish this book . So unlike any Stephen King book I've read. It was just slow paced, and extremely confusing to hold onto the basic storyline. The narrator didn't do the book any justice either. Its Stephen King for heavens sake cant we get a known person to narrate at least. Don't waste your time on this one folks. Sorry. Exchanging!!!

can't stand it.

I can not stand the emotionless weird talking of the reader Marin Ireland. book might even be alright if I could get past this horrible reading. How this reading got published idk. Book goes too in depth with people of no importance, just takes up time.

unbelievably bad.

Made it a little more than half way. One of the dumbest books I've ever read.

The performer made it significantly worse than it needed to be.

Absolutely horrid. Terribly and completely ghastly

The worst from Stephen King I've ever read, and I've read all of them. Completely lousy. Boring, too long, tons of filler, characterization was terrible. Ughhh.

The worst book I ever got from Audible.
