Excellent!
KJ Charles keeps getting better as a writer. This was wonderful! Interesting story, great action, unique romance. I enjoyed the time period too: England after World War I.

One of the best
The story is engaging, the characters are fabulous, the narration makes the class differences even more obvious. This is the beginning of a great romance, but it has enough genre fusion to please people who don’t read romance. It’s also kind of a historical pulp thriller, and even my husband listened to it and loved it. Recommended for everyone. It may be K J Charles’ best as well, and her books are consistently good.

Great Introduction to a New Series
Great HFN with potential for more on the romance side with spy-like plot with resolution of what looks to be a first phase.
Narration gives it extra depth.

Not My Favourite By KJ Charles
I didn't enjoy this book nearly as much as I'd hoped that I would. There were two big things that really prevented me from loving it.
I can't go into detail about what it was that happened (because, spoilers), but at one point in the book, Will makes the decision to go to Kim... And it was completely the wrong decision, particularly based on how they left things, and Kim's unapologetic, lying character.
The second thing that prevented me from enjoying the book was, in fact, Kim's unapologetic, lying character. He's so unrepentant and almost villainous throughout, that I can't for the life of me understand why Will falls for him, aside from the fact that he's the only other gay man that we meet in the narrative.
The rest of K.J. Charles' writing is lovely. 2.5*

Grew on me
At first, the smut parts of this book really put me off. I guess just with the name of the series, I was NOT expecting that. But that really tapered out as the book went on and the plot did interest me. In the end, this book was okay and I might pick up the next one.
