Publisher's Summary

A Warhammer 40,000 novel.

The Emperor's Spears are a Chapter on the edge of destruction, last watchmen over the Elara's Veil nebula. Now, the decisions of one man, Amadeus Kaias Incarius of the Mentor Legion, will determine the Chapter's fate....

Listen to it because:

Aaron Dembski-Bowden has turned his attention to creating (and maybe destroying) a Space Marine Chapter in detail, and this is your chance to discover their fate.

The story:

The scattered worlds of the Elara's Veil nebula were once protected by the oath of unity sworn by three mighty Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes. The Star Scorpions were undone by flaws in their genetic coding. The Celestial Lions were ravaged by the Inquisition for sins they did not commit. Now, after hundreds of years, only the Emperor's Spears still keep their vigil. They are barbarian watchmen against the Outer Dark, bloodied but unbroken in their long duty.

Amadeus Kaias Incarius, a brother of the Mentor Legion, is commanded to cross the Great Rift and assess the Spears' war-readiness, only to be drawn into the chaotic plight of a depleted crusade on the Imperium's benighted frontier. The decisions he makes, far from the God-Emperor's light, will decide the fate of the war-torn Chapter.

Written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Running time 11 hours and 46 minutes. Performed by Kelly Hotten.

One of my Favourite 40K stories!!!!

Aaron Dembski-Bowden has begun telling the story of the Emperor’s Spears from a new perspective. I have yet to read an entire space marine novel from the perspective of a human surf. This was a welcome change. The perspective really showcased the differences of a trans human. The book was great! A great story. I can’t wait for more novels from Dembski-Bowden about the Emperor’s Spears!

another amazing 40k novel from Aaron Demski-bowden. he continues to push the envelope when it comes to stoey telling in the 41st millenium.

Kelly Gotten had an excellent performance of the novel as well. can't wait for the next installment.

Great 40k novel

Great narration, interesting storyline but I would say if you like this kind of fiction you will thoroughly enjoy the works from the Horus Heresy! I enjoyed the description of technology, the characters and the protagonist but overall it wasn't as eventful as I had wanted. Still a great read of you're a 40k fan!

Enjoyable.

I wish they had some male voice actors for the space marines because I cant help but think of Zariah or a really masculine russian woman when I hear Braik speak.

Warhammer 40,000 At It's Prime

Spear of the Emperor is possibly the best novel that I've read that takes place in the current era of the Warhammer 40,000 setting.

The novel explores the life of Humans bound in service to one of the chapters of Space Marines, and how vastly different Space Marines themselves may be due to their chapter culture and world view. It also explores renegade forces, and most importantly, the dangers of Imperial politics and paranoia.

Unlike some Warhammer 40,000 novels which tend to heavily focus on action, Spear of the Emperor explores the universe itself, and has in depth character development. This increases the tension in many scenes, not only combat, and asks the question, "just how noble is the Imperium?"

This read is perfect for people getting into the setting for the first time, and veterans alike. A must read in my opinion.

Good performance

Great character, nice intrigue.
Actual Character arc and development plus inspiring setting. Quite interesting setting for a good rpg game for a 40k game.
Quite appreciated the intelligence of the writer in making a story about strong characters because said strenght did not revolve around what kind of genitals they had but about their resolve to get over the obstacle of personnal change.
Loved the narration, polyvalent and great pitch.
Can't wait for more.

One of the best 40k novels to date!

This was so good. After this and Helsreach, ADB is my favourite BL author and resoundingly so. Also, the audio performance was near perfect. I loved every minute and am so happy to be a 40k fan and sad for those who are not. Well done!!

A.D.B slays it once again

Gosh darn fantastic story but the woman narrating this sounds as bored as I am listening to her. I had to go find the book to truly enjoy this for myself in the end.
