About this listen

This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of Underland, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers - precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.

This was an amazing story, one of the best I’ve listened to. It had fantasy, romance, and plot twists. This is a must-read.

A YA Alice Retelling

A very different look into wonderland, that dragged me in quickly and left me wanting more.

Great love triangle, where you’re rooting for both love interests and can’t decide yourself. The heroine is No faded damsel, she is strong and interesting.

Wonderful performance by the reader. Very worth picking up- you won’t regret it!

Unique take on Wonderland

It’s an interesting take in Alice in Wonderland a little dark with mental illness, an insane asylum and talks of electric shock therapy.

Alyssa the female protagonist is 15 maybe 16 (personally her age bugs me, and I find the sexual tension between her and her 19 year old male best friend. And between her and a few hundred or thousands of year old man in wonderland… is gross for her age!) why must writers do this please make books about characters 21 and over no one wants to hear about children talking about loosing their virginity! 🤢🤮

The rest of the story was pretty good, she went into wonderland to try to break her family curse that affects just the woman. They end up crazy. Yet we later learn it’s not actually a curse.

She went down with her best male friend who she’s had a crush on forever and same with him… they finish many tasks trying to break the curse and go home.

There’s a sacrifice where he ends up back home with zero memories of his time with her in wonderland.

She finds out who her bloodline is and goes home to save her mom from electric shock therapy.

But the story’s not done yet…
