Give it a chance
I’m not sure why others weren’t happy with this book. Because of some of the negative reviews I was highly reluctant to give it a chance. Normally I do not write reviews but I had to in this case. The story is excellent and Marc’s narration (as always) is amazing. While they author introduces a ton of characters and locations, it doesn’t hinder the story at all. You don’t get a ton of character development, which some people seem to require, but the action and story more than make up for it. It’s almost like reading a comic book. If you’re on the fence about trying this book out, give it a chance. I’m stoked to check out the next novel in the series.

pretty good, just one nitpick
as someone who listens to alot of the star wars books, would be really nice if they had more variety of voice actors. especially in these series without character recognition from the films, it gets hard to keep characters straight.
also, stop making every alien sound like high pitched squakey birds. makes those sections hard to get through. if your going to bother with alien dialects, have more than three templates.

Keeps you on your toes!
If you’re not paying attention then it’s hard to know who is who. Also some of the characters you thought would survive actually die off quite quickly.
It’s really a go go go kinda book. I enjoyed it because it doesn’t really slow down and get boring.

Pretty good overall

No one can beat Marc Thompson at work.... Great
Great new story, really gets you into the characters.... Alphabet squadron was a decent start, but with new voices narrating each book it kinda makes it tough to keep up that's why MT is the best when bringing out a star wars story

An amazing launching story for this series
The book is an amazing start to a new Star Wars storyline. The book introduces us to a lot of new places, characters and a great new villain. The book introducing a lot new characters and me being mainly a visual consumer of Star Wars content(illiterate), I myself found it hard to keep track of all the different characters with out looking up visuals online.

Slow
This was my first audio book. It has a slow start. Doesn't get interesting until near the end of the book. Just meh. The voice actor was decent though. Was going to try to listen to the next one, but I instantly couldn't stand her voice. Guess this is it for me.

Just yes
I was honestly seriously afraid going into this that it wouldn’t be at all interesting. Disney invented a good bit into their new high republic era. And it pays off. Charles soule proves he knows Star Wars in this book (first book of his I don’t know if he’s done more) so many new concepts, ideas, characters, creatures, and the like are introduced and it doesn’t feel forced at all. (Slight spoilers from here on) I especially like how lgbt representation was included in this. It’s not forced down your throat, it’s just mentioned in passing and that’s it. It’s natural. I’m invested now, I want to know what happens to these characters now. Highly recommend the read/listen. Very much Star Wars

Far better then anticipated
I first want to start by saying that if you're looking for any "Skywalker Saga" content here you'll find little. With that being said the book has been LITTERED with lore and references. I dont want to spoil anything in my review but I was very surprised to see a familiar face that was not mentioned to the media at all. The narration is some of the best in Star Wars audio books that I have listened too.
As a fan of over 20 years I can confidently say that newer fans to the Star Wars universe and older fans of the Star Wars universe should be very content with what they are given here today.
I'll be sure to update my review if anything changes however a few chapters into Part II and my excitement has not ceased. This is an excellent introduction to the new era of the High Republic and I am very excited to see what the future releases this year will bring us.
