Publisher's Summary

A prequel to the New York Times best-selling novel Queen's Shadow, further exploring the life of the iconic Padmé Amidala!

When 14-year-old Padmé Naberrie wins the election for queen of Naboo, she adopts the name Amidala and leaves her family to the rule from the royal palace. To keep her safe and secure, she'll need a group of skilled handmaidens who can be her assistants, confidantes, defenders, and decoys. Each girl is selected for her particular talents, but it will be up to Padmé to unite them as a group. When Naboo is invaded by forces of the Trade Federation, Queen Amidala and her handmaidens will face the greatest test - of themselves and of each other.

I did NOT EXPECT A SECRET SAPHIC LOVE STORY! <3

I love how it talked about padmé getting her period, and they made each handmaiden come to life, and feel like real teen girls (coming from a teen girl herself) and we got an insight into the thoughts and feelings of each character more that we saw in the movie. Love the queer representation with Sabé, and Yaneé & Sasché, made my heart happy. (Again coming from a queer teen girl herself) And I especially loved how it both started and ended with “the girl in the white dress”. perfect, amazing, would have read sooner if I knew it was gonna be that gay. Exceeded my expectations, 10/10 would recommend 💞💞💞

Perfect

Perfect to just have on. It is just the perfect gap filler and allows for more charters to have voices

Anakin Skywalker Liked Flying

My favourite quotes from this book: “Anakin Skywalker liked flying.” “Anakin Skywalker really liked flying.”

Voice acting, folly work, and soundtrack

It should be noted that this audiobook approaches a radio play in terms of how it sounds. While the Narration is great, it can sometimes be difficult to hear over the buzzing sound effects or beeping or chattering background is playing on top of it. I really wish there was a way to adjust the sound effects or mute them entirely so that the background noise actually sounded like BACKGROUND noise and aided the performance instead of drowning it out. Its interesting for sure, but not for everyone.

Great slice of Episode 1

After reading both Padme books, I will say I really enjoyed the story behind all the handmaidens, even if a lot of it played out more "slice of life" than most Star Wars stories. Going back and watching episode 1 after diving into all these books really helped round out the story behind it all, made me appreciate it more as a big Star Wars nerd.

I enioyed all the characters and Padme as central focuses. My only complaint on this book was the blood alarm, haha. It's not that it was horrible just kind of silly for the political tone of this book. It didn't ruin it for me though. Would recommend for anyone interested more in the political side of Star Wars.

amazing

The story is a bit slow and doesn’t really start to move fast (almost too fast) till the last two hours of the book. I loved it though. It was really cool to see how Padmé met her handmaidens. Beware of the torture scene near the end though, it wouldn’t be that bad but they have a screaming sound effect in the background that made me quite uncomfortable. Just a heads up for anyone that’s sensitive with those kind of things.
