Story
Stranger in a Strange Land is the epic saga of an earthling, Valentine Michael Smith, born and educated on Mars, who arrives on our planet with “psi” powers—telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, telekinesis, teleportation, pyrolysis, and the ability to take control of the minds of others—and complete innocence regarding the mores of man. Story
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

A thought provoking surprise.
having only ever watched the movie I was surprised at the depth of the book.
There is a TON more here, making the movie feel more like a cartoon and the book more like a discussion on the morality of a militarized society.
10/10 will fuel my conversations for a long time.

Great book Bad audio
The story is very good as it gives a very detailed insight into the military. What it lacks is an audio to match. Inconsistent volume from the narrator made it jarring at times to follow the story. That said, soldier on as the story is worth it

Classic book, reasonable recording
A classic that combines philosophy and nuclear annihilation of giant insects. While the recording quality can vary through the book this is only A mild distraction and doesn't detract from the experience.

A great listen, and a good story.
While I did thoroughly enjoy listening to this, and normally I would grant it 5 stars across the board. There were seemingly random quality changes throughout the story. The changes were only for a few sentences at a time, but its was very noticeable.
I do recommend this story to all those who who like space sci-fi, that's grounded in a bit of realism.
