Publisher's Summary

On the day she was abducted, Annie O’Sullivan, a 32-year-old Realtor, had three goals: sell a house, forget about a recent argument with her mother, and be on time for dinner with her ever-patient boyfriend. The open house is slow, but when her last visitor pulls up in a van as she’s about to leave, Annie thinks it just might be her lucky day after all.

Interwoven with the story of the year Annie spent captive in a remote mountain cabin — which unfolds through sessions with her psychiatrist — is a second narrative recounting the nightmare that follows her escape: her struggle to piece her shattered life back together, the ongoing police investigation into the identity of her captor, and the disturbing sense that things are far from over.

The truth doesn’t always set you free.

Still Missing is a shocking, visceral, brutal, and beautifully crafted debut novel about surviving the unsurvivable — and living to bear witness.

What the critics say

"The intense plot alternates between Annie's creepy confinement, her escape, and her attempts to readjust to real life, from going to the bathroom when she wants to managing her own meals. Still, Annie knows that a large part of her soul is still missing. Her transformation from victim adds to the believability of the enthralling plot." ( Publishers Weekly)

Did not enjoy

Despised the narration, personally. The main character was just weirdly portrayed by the narrator’s voice. I’ve already hit the climax, but I still have 3 painstakingly boring hours left. I don’t think I’ll make it through. If you look at the other titles by this author, it makes sense to me. It’s this kind of cookie cutter horror novel that happens to have rape in it. There’s no excitement, there’s no real fear, there’s no twist. It’s just flat.

I will never work another open house alone again.

Great writing, great narration, but how it all unfolds towards the end left me very frustrated and almost sick for the main character. To go through such a horrific ordeal in the first place, then come to find out the selfish truth behind it all left me feeling scared, empty and sad.

Surprising

Great writing and narration! I am pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this novel. As heart wrenching as it is, I couldn’t stop listening and I know I’ll be thinking about it for the next few days.

I felt kind of weird listening to this

This book was well written, I was interested from the start, but it felt a bit gratuitously violent maybe? Like a LOT of this book is just traumatic violence/abuse, and I often felt weird about how much of it there was to get through. The ending was not satisfying, just kind of a bummer after all of the misery.

Devoured this

The story was something unpredictable and very captivating. The narrator did a wonderful job as well.

Kept me interested

Usually I listen to a book while I clean or walk, AirPods in and listen. This book had me hooked. I listened for 2 days and finished it! So good. Great twist.
