Some Pig. Humble. Radiant. These are the words in Charlotte's Web, high up in Zuckerman's barn. Charlotte's spider web tells of her feelings for a little pig named Wilbur, who simply wants a friend. They also express the love of a girl named Fern, who saved Wilbur's life when he was born the runt of his litter. E. B. White's Newbery Honor Book is a tender novel of friendship, love, life, and death that will continue to be enjoyed by generations to come.

Story
Told from four-year-old Laura's point of view, this story begins in 1871 in a little log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods of Wisconsin. Laura lives in the little house with her pa, her ma, her sisters Mary and Carrie, and their trusty dog, Jack. Pioneer life is sometimes hard for the family, since they must grow or catch all their own food as they get ready for the cold winter. But it is also exciting as Laura and her family celebrate Christmas with homemade toys and treats, do the spring planting, bring in the harvest, and make their first trip into town.

Stuart Little is superb!
Julie Harris absolutely makes this book! The tale is whimsical, entertaining and fun, and nothing at all like the movie- it is far superior.
This is a great listen for kids and is entertaining enough for adults to listen either alone or along with the family.
By far my favorite audible find so far, in large part because of the captivating reader.

Delightful, Charming, Philosophical, PERFECT!
Stuart Little is a perfect book: delightful, charming, funny, philosophical, unpredictable, wistful, and finally mysterious. It is so short and so perfect!
And Julie Harris, the accomplished American actress of stage and cinema, has a perfectly savory voice and clever and caring manner for her reading of the book (which was done in 1965 when she was forty, apparently), infusing it with appealing wit and emotion and poetry in all the right places. Hearing her read (no, mumble) the lines of a dental patient with his mouth stuffed with several wads of gauze, or the comical and finally beautiful exchanges between substitute teacher Stuart and his pupils, or the exciting sailboat race, or any of the other wonderful scenes, is a pure pleasure.
Highly recommended to everyone!

Memory
I’ve really gone down memory road with this story! I’m dating myself but, anyway, everyone ought to have had this book read to them. It’s amazing and full of adventure to! It opens the children’s imaginations and my little dogs enjoy it also. My grand girls cut their teeth on audible stories. Maybe if kids got this story NOW days the world may be a better place to reside!

Timeless story
If you could sum up Stuart Little in three words, what would they be?
Gentle, compelling, timeless
What does Julie Harris bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
Clearly read at just the right pace to be understood by a child. A gentle read.
Any additional comments?
Excellent way to introduce a child to the pleasure of audio books. Each chapter stands on its own and captures the attention of the young listener. I enjoyed this book in my youth and found my grandson equally entertained.

Okay collection of adventures with abrupt ending
I remember enjoying this book tremendously as a child as I loved books about small human-like animals. This is certainly a children’s book, and not quite like I remember. His book is for the most part a collection of mostly unrelated adventures that generally don’t build on each other. Most of the adventures would be enjoyable for kids (such as the sailing race on the pond). E.B. White sometimes gives “reasonable” explanations for Stuart’s little things - such as ice skates made of paper clips and coins made of foil, but sometimes there is no explanation at all for things (a working car with gas engine for a mouse?!?). But this is a kid’s book, so I can let that go. I found the last part of the book strange and startlingly abrupt. Two things. First, Stuart there is a big set up for Stuart to meet up with another little person, a girl named Harriet. They do meet for a date, but Stuart’s plans don’t fully work out and even though Harriet tries to salvage things Stuart just dumps her and that adventure just ends, leaving the reader to wonder what the point was. Second, the last part is about Stuart running away from home to find the bird Margalo, and it is on this quest he meets Harriet. But right after the Harriet angle is dropped like a stone, The Who,e story just ends. No Margalo found, no return to his family. I almost wondered if I was missing a chunk of the book. All in all, there is a lot to like in this story, but the very abrupt ending was not satisfying.

Entertaining
What made the experience of listening to Stuart Little the most enjoyable?
My 7 year old daughter enjoys audio books. This is one that she can listen to when her friends are here. When she has a sleep over and they wont stop giggling - I can turn this on and they will listen and be quiet. I dont have to worry about the content - its appropriate and they enjoy it. She has listened to it many times.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Stuart.
Have you listened to any of Julie Harris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is our first experience with Julie Harris. She did a fine job.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this book as much as my daughter.
