Publisher's Summary

The best-selling military space opera: the complete series in one box set.

Captain Keyes is loved by the public but hated by Command. He captains the UHS Providence, an aging supercarrier and the last human ship not dependent on dark tech - technology humanity has used to rule over the galaxy since barely defeating the Ixa in the First Galactic War.

Dominance has come at a cost. Over the decades, old allies have grown resentful, and when dark tech itself fails, Captain Keyes’ predictions start coming true: those old allies are now enemies.

But Keyes is not the only one proven right. As the galaxy plunges into war, the Ixan Prophecies are being fulfilled, one by one. Humanity’s oldest enemy is on the rise, with weaponry never seen before.

The fate of the galaxy now depends on Captain Keyes, his tired ship, and his oddball crew. It doesn’t pay to be right.

It's a good story if....

The basis of the plot hinges on one of the weakest foundations. A software upgrade that nullifies human technological advantage. I've listened to a few books using this lately. If somebody else is writing your military software, you better keep backups of software that worked in the past. Companies like Blackberry have crumbled because of software failure and it seems very shortsighted that all of humanity falls for the same issue.

suitable for young adults

I want to say I didn't like these books, but maybe they aren't written for me.

There's no swearing or sex. My own life shouldn't be more interesting buts its as interesting as I think my kids life should be.

I think its written for youths.

Most of it takes place aboard the ship in a generic fleet. The fleet belongs to a generic sci fi society.
The aliens are one dimensional. Everything feels so low resolution I didn't care when there were major calamities.

Oh well. Your kids will like it.

The author isn't bad. More recent books will please adults. The performance is pretty good for the material.

Good Reader But Disappointing Story

I started out hopeful in the story, but by half way through the second book I found myself just wanted to get to the end to see how the author would resolve the near insurmountable and largely unbelievable problem set before the characters. I like other work by the author, but wouldn't recommend this one, sorry.

A good listen.

Overall a good story line with a few expected twists. Narration was quite creative with all the great voices.
A great listen over my many long cars drives.

editor error in chapter order

wasn't overly bad, there is 2 chapters in the third book that got switched I assume by mistake. kinda annoying that the editor or whomever didnt catch it. it just confuses you a bit until you hear the next chapter.

Decent enough story, horrible performance

The story itself is good enough to listen to, *just barely* good enough to get through the grating performance the first time. I wanted to listen to it for a second time but just could not make it past a few chapters. Too bad.

Utter rubbish

The story is pedantic. The characters are not relatable or believable. In short ... this was terrible and I couldn't finish it.

Is the author 12?

seriously there is zero depth or nuance to this rambling disjointed story. Even the lead character is devoid of feeling and clear motivation.

WTF was that!

Ok I don't like to harp on anyone's hard work, but WTF! you invest 3 books in deep and it ends like that?? that is time in my life I wish I had back. The story was good. The Aliens were fun, I enjoyed the books til the end. Worse then the Game of Thrones ending. I will not spoil it for anyone wanting to waste time, but it was like, he was on a deadline to end it or his wife was waiting in the car to go to Walmart, and he had 15 mins to finish the book and just ended the story, My mother also listen to the book and she had to listen to the end 3 times, because she thought it was not really how it ended. She called me and said " This is not the end is it? No way this is how it ends? That's weak." she is not wrong. This story had so much potential. His world building was good, but it was destroyed by the ending. A total shame. Oh one last thing. The ships seem to fly a long way without fueling up. Took like 3 books to fuel up. Little details also were missed. You can tell the Narrator seemed to loose a bit of interest as the book ended. Think he thought the same.
