Publisher's Summary

All six Tales of the City novels available in one audio edition with a special introduction by the author.

Armistead Maupin's uproarious and moving Tales of the City novels have earned a unique niche in American literature, not only as matchless entertainment but as indelible documents of cultural change in the '70s and '80s.

Among the cast of this groundbreaking saga are the lovelorn residents of 28 Barbary Lane: the bewildered but aspiring Mary Ann Singleton; the libidinous Brian Hawkins; Mona Ramsey, still in a'60s trance; Michael "Mouse" Tolliver, forever in bright-eyed pursuit of Mr. Right; and their marijuana-growing landlady, the indefatigable Mrs. Madrigal.

Amazing Series

I really live this series. I love how the story never tries to push you to like a certain character more or less. Its just like listening to an autobiography of these peoples lives even though they dont exist. I love how the characters are so different and unique. Anna Madrigal is someone I aspire to be! she is the epitome of someone who can look past a persons sexuality, past, gender, race, etc and just be kind to everyone. If you like this series you should also definitely watch the 1997 series (not the netflix series). It is so close to the first book and has the perfect actors for the characters.

Missing Pieces

Maupins narration is fin, hearing the author read his own work is lovely. However, the books are missing key scenes! Mona in the Blue Moon lodge as a nun and Michael's coming out letter to his parents come to mind.

It feels like the Coles Notes version of Tales. Give this one a miss.
