Publisher's Summary
Now a major motion picture, the first novel in the riveting Chaos Walking trilogy by two-time Carnegie Medalist Patrick Ness.
“Narrated with crack dramatic and comic timing.... The cliffhanger ending is as effective as a shot to the gut.” --Booklist (starred review)
Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him - something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she? Why wasn't she killed by the germ like all the females on New World? Propelled by Todd's gritty narration, readers are in for a white-knuckle journey in which a boy on the cusp of manhood must unlearn everything he knows in order to figure out who he truly is.

interesting hook at start, but falls off hard mid
The concept is interesting and hooks you right from the start, but as you progress through the story and you learn more about the mystery, it stops making sense.. just plain dumb actually. Also the book ends basically mid sentence to try to get people to get the next one.. very frustrating. I don't refund books, but man does this one deserve it.

I hope the movie is better
I don't want to ruin anything but if you're into something with a lot of despair then you'll like this. I won't be moving on to book 2.

What an intriguing premise!
Started it reluctantly but I was hooked almost immediately! The narrator is pleasant to listen to and the story is enthralling!

Narrator was Fantastic!
Nick Podehl absolutely killed it, he brought all the characters to life, and made each one have a unique voice. Manchee, Todd, and all the creatures. Patrick Ness wrote a great and addictive story that Nick Podehl brought to life.

Impossible to stop
The narrator is incredible and made me feel like I was in the story! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, I cried, I laughed, I waited. Just amazing.

Drawn out with a rather annoying main character
I watched Chaos walking and wanted to checkout the book it was based on. Liked the movie but found I couldn't wait fir the end of the first book!
The main character is amazingly whiney and gets on your nerves after a while. The story premise is really interesting but the execution of it is incredibly drawn out in an effort to convey Todd's angst (and more angst and more angst and so on).
It was painful getting through this book so doubt I'll give the second a listen despite the e cellent narration.

quite interesting world
"The Noise is a man unfiltered, and without a filter, a man is just chaos walking."
This is very new and fun concept I never thought of at all. And everything going on in the main character's head we can read. sometimes it is little too much. Through out the book he keeps repeating same phrase at least three times. lol. But the story is so intense and keeps me in the focus.

My first hate-listen
I've never found myself halfway through an audio book before realizing I don't like the story. Every "twixt" I heard added snow to an ever-growing ball of hate that grew exponentially as I sat and listened. The chains of a credit card purchase kept me prisoner, forcing me to endure string-along plot points that seemingly laughed until the inevitable cliff-hanger ending. Do not allow this book to transform you into bovine form, awaiting suction hoses to milk you of your hard earned money. If one of us falls, we all point and laugh.

One of the greats
Great read or should I say listen, however you choose to enjoy you won't regret it.
This book is right up there with ' The adventures of Huckleberry Finn' in my opinion .
