Publisher's Summary

The thrilling young adult debut from the #1 New York Times- best-selling author.

Tory Brennan, niece of acclaimed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (of the Bones novels and hit TV show), is the leader of a ragtag band of teenage "sci-philes" who live on a secluded island off the coast of South Carolina. When the group rescues a dog caged for medical testing on a nearby island, they are exposed to an experimental strain of canine parvovirus that changes their lives forever.

As the friends discover their heightened senses and animal-quick reflexes, they must combine their scientific curiosity with their newfound physical gifts to solve a cold-case murder that has suddenly become very hot—if they can stay alive long enough to catch the killer's scent.

Fortunately, they are now more than friends—they're a pack. They are Virals.

Good for tweens to grandparents!

Well written, as always, by Kathy Reichs, with real characters, history and places. A group of very bright young people discover a wolf-dog pup being used as a test subject and the mystery begins. Well thought out plot, timing and wonderful conversations. The series continues , however, this book can stand alone. Makes a terrific gift!

Great book! Excellent narrator!

Definitely recommend this book! I don’t normally enjoy female narrators, but Cristin Milioti was the perfect choice for this one. I could really imagine the entire story coming to life as she read. Exciting and fun, intelligently written. I’ll certainly be listening to the second book in the series!

Makes me feel 16 again

I love the show bones and initially I thought this would be very similar but more teenage and it’s a lot more teenage than I thought. It’s quite PG either way I liked it I would’ve loved this book when I was 14 I would have died if I would’ve had this series when I was 14 it would’ve been so amazing I already bought the other three or four books in the series so I’m gonna listen to them and is extremely well read.
