The spirited child - often called "difficult" or "strong-willed" - can easily overwhelm parents, leaving them feeling frustrated and inadequate. Spirited kids are, in fact, simply "more" - by temperament, they are more intense, sensitive, perceptive, persistent, and uncomfortable with change than the average child. Through vivid examples and a refreshingly positive viewpoint, Mary Sheedy Kurcinka offers parents emotional support and proven strategies for handling their spirited child.

Story
One of the very best scientific predictors for how any child turns out - in terms of happiness, academic success, leadership skills, and meaningful relationships - is whether at least one adult in their life has consistently shown up for them. In an age of scheduling demands and digital distractions, showing up for your child might sound like a tall order. But as best-selling authors Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson reassuringly explain, it doesn’t take a lot of time, energy, or money. Instead, showing up means offering a quality of presence.

Story
In Hold On to Your Kids, Dr. Neufeld and Dr. Maté explore the phenomenon of peer orientation: the troubling tendency of children and youth to look to their peers for direction - for a sense of right and wrong, for values, identity and codes of behavior. But peer orientation undermines family cohesion, poisons the school atmosphere, and fosters an aggressively hostile and sexualized youth culture. It provides a powerful explanation for schoolyard bullying and youth violence; it is an escalating trend that has never been adequately described or contested.

Highly recommend
Gives you a better understanding of how you should show your love to your child based on their love language. Real life examples and the do's/don'ts were helpful in to approach certain instances with you children. A must read for parents who want to raise emotionally healthy stable adults. The way you show love is not necessarily the way the child needs to feel loved.

Overall a great message but also a heavy Christian message
The basic principles of this book are great, knowing, learning and using the appropriate level language for your child (and also your partner if you have one).
Personally, I found the overt and sometimes overbearing Christian references unpleasant and unnecessary, but I respect that is the belief system of the authors.
I think it is important to be aware of this however as if Christianity is not your faith basis it is important to prepare yourself for hearing about it
