This is not really an "academy arc" - it's more of a training camp ... and I'm perfectly fine with that since I don't care for academy settings at all. The general plot and progression are as good as the first book, with some aspects even better (there are high-stakes conflicts now). It's just that MC has started to whine occasionally. I'm hoping it's just teenage hormones and he'll grow out of it in future books

This is probably my least favorite of Always Rolls A One's books. This book just came across as flat, it felt like I was listening to Storm's journal, especially once the academy started. This week he focused on X or he worked on imprinting Y spell.

if I had to sum up my review it would be that it is a mediocre attempt at your standard isekai/litrpg academy arc. It stays too high level to really be interesting, plus the side stuff ( building the Shiny Platinum) is just to removed from the academy to keep the listener/reader engaged with both.

The resolution of the conflict at the end of the book also felt rushed and very surface level. Whlist Storm and crew aren't at the heart of the political landscape and try to stay out of it, some proper political intrigue would have been nice considering the end of the book.

There were some continuity errors as well, especially in regards to the dungeon essences.

As for characters, Storm is the only one who really grows/develops. And the less said about Gareth the better, he either needs to grow a lot as a character or be written out soon. As for the others they don't really grow much.

Hopefully the next book is much better because this one was a bit of a let down after book one.
